Seriously considering a D-max...
I've been looking around and the price for Dmaxes in my area has faceplanted. I am finding multiple ext. cab short bed 4x4's w/ less than 140k miles for under 15k. My truck NADA's at 11k, and she's a beauty, I bet I could get 13k for her to the right person, Chevy half-tons go for tons out here.
Is there anything I should be looking for in a used Duramax with over 100k mi? I know of the injector issue. The years I'm looking at are 2002-2003. Quote:

Word. Trucks like mine in worse shape are being SOLD on lots for 13k. Finding the right person I could pay my truck off and have a considerable chunk to put down on a Duramax. Quote:

Re: Seriously considering a D-max...
duramaxs are great engines and are very reliable. I have a LLY and love it.. except for the $4.60 / gallon fillups. Get one you wont be dissappointed. It was night and day over my 6.0L

Re: Seriously considering a D-max...
If you find one, you may want to check out some not-so-obvious signs of rough treatment. For instance, look for a little plug in the passenger side exhaust manifold. That would mean that somebody had an EGT gauge in it. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing, but someone could be trying to hide something. Have the OBDII scanned for codes. You'll don't want to see something like a p700 which means the tranny was limped. Have a carfax done to see if the injectors have been replaced etc. You can go to thedieselplace and get a Vin check for free. Just a few suggestions.

Wow i need to come out there to sell trucks, around here you would be lucky to get 6-7k for a half ton of that vintage.

Re: Seriously considering a D-max...
Key words are "on the lot". Are they actually selling? What are they leaving the lot for?. My buddy has a 02 ECSB loaded to the teeth with 46k miles and can't get 10k out of it, at least here trucks aren't selling much at all.

Re: Seriously considering a D-max...
I got my d max for 8k, of course its a single cab 2wd, not the most desirable truck, but still if you shop around you can find em cheap. you rarely see half tons sell for more then diesels, only the 6.0s could potentially sell for more.
also early 01s are said to have head gasket problems, but i have one of the early d maxs and run over stock boost with an decent tune without problems yet at over 150k, I'm also still on original injectors, i know eventually they'll go but oh well its worth it. good engine no matter what year imo.

Re: Seriously considering a D-max...
I got mine posted for 8k right now...someones comin to look at it this weekend. I think I found the truck I want... http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/car/634182367.html
I had never heard about head gasket problems...that has me spooked now, i dont want to look at 01's anymore. And about the injectors, i thought i heard something about GM recalling the injectors if they go out or something...or will the cost be all on the owner? One more thing...did all Dmaxs have the allison matched with them? I dont think id want to get one without the other ![]() Leveling Kit, 305/70/R16 Last edited by lotsofmud400 : 05-09-2008 at 01:54 PM. |

Re: Seriously considering a D-max...
only the first half of the 01s are said to have problems, but i haven't had any problems yet so take it for what it is, there hasn't been any real recalls for it, just talk on other forums... the injectors are coverd 7 year/ 200k but if you have done any mods like tuners some dealers wont do it. any dmax with an auto has an Allison, the other trans is the zf6 manual, which is a great trans as well. and as far as searching, theres so little activity in the diesel section here, who cares if theres another topic thats already been covered. reading old threads just doesn't quite do it sometimes.

That = to lazy to search, but if you did you would learn that your not quite right. All of the LB7s could have injector problems , but its more common in the 01-02s and even a few LLYs have too. ![]() These views expressed on this post are not my own, but rather randomly generated computer gibberish and in no way should be used to judge the author's IQ or mental health. |
