Re: 4bt swaps
A friend of mine has a 6.5 v8 diesel in his s10. So a 4bt 3.9 cummins would be good also. For a cummins you would need a adaptor plate. and a torque converter (If automatic)for a diesel.

I remember back in 1984 and 1985 when s-10 came factory with isuzu diesel 2.2L. I wanted one but they were hard to get and only came with a stick. I wanted one with a automatic. And I don't know if one ever came with a automatic. That would have been a sweet ride. Also I remember they only came in 2wd. 4wd wasn't a option that I know of. If it came with 4wd and a automatic it would have made a good little truck for plowing snow.

Re: 4bt swaps
Check out www.4btswaps.com A 4BT will carry your yukon around pretty well, they have anywhere from 105-130hp and about 300 ft lbs. They move around those 7-8K bread trucks pretty well for how little they are.

Re: 4bt swaps
I would love to have a 4bt in a 1/2t shortbed as a daily runner. Something small and light would get excellent fuel mileage from that setup, and they run forever. Although it seems in the past year or so, 4bt's have been "catching on" more and the price has gone up as people realize what they have.

Re: 4bt swaps
Yeah the price ordeal is the part that sucks. I've been considering swapping one into my blazer but the price is stopping me from doing it. Being in high school and working for minimum wage doesn't help either.

Re: 4bt swaps
The turbo 4bt was usually named the 4bta. frito lay had a few, marine applications had some. I know a guy with a 4bt and that pulls his suburban just fine. That little engine is a power house. He gets 26 mpg with it. What he has told me the swap was well worth it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFi8mjUfU1g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV903Ai7Uhg

Re: 4bt swaps
look for the chevy P30 vans on ebay there are a few. Craigslist is usually pretty good as well, espicially if some one does not what they have.

Ehh... no. The 4B is the naturally aspirated engine. (no turbo) The 4BT is the same engine but with a turbo. The 4BTA is the 4BT but with an after cooler on the intake.

Re: 4bt swaps
A popular place to find 4BT's is through Dovebid.com.

Look for their transportation auctions. When the time is near, you can view the auction catalog for 4BT-equipped trucks. Seems like most of these are trucks from Pepsi and Frito-Lay.

Buy a P30 van, and take what you want. Scrap the body, maybe sell other drivetrain components... you end up with a pretty cheap engine.
