Drw/srw
I have posted about buying a truck before, but I have another ?
I have an 89 Camaro and a 49 F-1. Right now I have a 20 ft open trailer. I know drw's is over kill along with the D-max. But in the long run I would like a gooseneck that I can put both in or one of the RV's that I can put one in. Will the drw's make that much of a diff pulling a dual car enclosed/ rv,car trailer? I do want a crew cab, and was thinking drw cause I know they are more stable. I do also like to go overkill when towing. ![]() 96 Silverado ECSB, 350, 4L60E, 3.42 G80 89 Camaro, 5 speed, 3.08 LS 49 F-1, flathead 6, 4 speed, 2wd, unknown rear end. Old rust bucket. |

Re: Drw/srw
duel's will be a little more stable, Alot more stable if you have a 5th wheel trailer. But if you tow using regular trailer hitch. single wheel or dual are pretty close to the same. You should have a receiver hitch with sway bars. Then single or dual are the same. Or pretty close. I use a set of sway bars on the dually too, so it's good insurance having it. But basically. A 5th wheel trailer is where the single wheel and duals are different. Duels makes it alot more stable in the wind and such.

Re: Drw/srw
I'm not sure how often you would run into a situation where it would make a large difference stability wise. I have pulled my 5th wheel from Maine to Alaska, and many points in between and never had any issues with my 3500 SRW.
Duals do give a larger carrying capacity, although to look at the "official" stats they dodn't look that different. Compare 4 tires with a 3000lb rating each vs 2 with a 3600lb rating each. I chose a SWR because I didn't want the hassle of having the extra rear width, and because it's expensive enough to replace 4 tires let alone 6.

Re: Drw/srw
It you don't get one with living quarters so it isn't to tall you should be ok with a SRW, but DRW is better. If you would rather be overkill then a DRW is for you.

Re: Drw/srw
When I get it I know it's going to be overkill for my trailer, but after I buy this truck I have no intention of getting rid of it for a long time. With plans of a dual enclosed or rv with car trailer I think I will go DRW.
Thank you for you imput. ![]() 96 Silverado ECSB, 350, 4L60E, 3.42 G80 89 Camaro, 5 speed, 3.08 LS 49 F-1, flathead 6, 4 speed, 2wd, unknown rear end. Old rust bucket. |

Re: Drw/srw
I also pull a car trailer several times a year, with 60's-70's muscle cars. It's a 24' open dual-axle trailer, about 2500lbs empty. With one of the 60's cars usually about 6500lbs more or less depending upon what i have on it. I pulled with a SRW for years, i got a DRW in 2006 - now that i've pulled with the DRW i'm spoiled and won't use my SRW truck for that again if i can help it. No comparison on the stability on winding roads or high wind areas. My 2 cents worth.

Re: Drw/srw
Wish I had a trailer with old cars on it, Something that would make the duramax work. But the wife wouldn't let me do that.
