Re: just some questions
I think in my c/k chevy manual the horsepower is different between S & F engines. Also can't remember but a 1/2 ton diesel engine had less horsepower then the 3/4 diesel. I gotta look in my book now and see what it is.

Re: just some questions
Well according to this book, Both diesel F & S are 180hp @ 3400 Rpms. The engines are the same, But it indicates F came with a TD/HO or no turbo. Which I find hard to believe on a 1999 model. HO stands for high output. But as far as specs they are same engine, same horsepower, same torque band. S came with a TD (turbo diesel).

Re: just some questions
The one in the 1/2 tons had an EGR valve in the upper intake and the HD one doesn't. Can't remember which is which letter.

Re: just some questions
That very well could be something with the egr. I didn't think of that.

Re: just some questions
The difference in the F and S is the EGR and a slight tuning difference. The 1/2 ton 1500's usually got the S staring in the 1994 model year. The 6.5 TD's are rated anywhere from 210HP ('92-93) down to 180HP (S later models). The F is usually in the 2500/3500's and some Suburbans, lots of people trash the S upper and lower intakes and replaced them with the F intakes. The F intakes don't have the EGR ports and that's blocked off in the lower intake. The F upper intakes aren't tapped for the EGR as well. Hope that helps.

255 hp that would be a chevy 350 vortec lol. I could see 195 hp. The diesel 6.5 hovered around that horsepower range. If your diesel is a 195 it will have a little more towing power then a 454 tbi. They had trouble with cracking when the 6.5 first came out, gotta get it pretty hot. But that was solved within the first 2 years. If you vin # does say it's a gas engine, Then I would say someone put a diesel swap in it.

If you're worried add some additional cooling. I've read of some people on dieselplace adding aux. fans and larger radiators on their 6.5's. '00 ECSB 4x4 | Built 4L65e | 5.3 | 2% Tint | K&N | Magnaflow | BFG | Wait4Me

Re: just some questions
I agree. I don't think you'll have a overheating problem. But you could always add a bigger radiator and high volume water pump. I never had to tow in the mountains. So I never worried about that. We have a few big hills here. Never trouble on those. But if you want to upgrade. I say go for it. But if you have winter where you are at. Make sure you have some type of grille cover. That will help it heat up when it gets cold. Then you'll have some actually heat from the heater. And the wife won't complain that she can see her breath.

Re: just some questions
Since when did these trucks have electric fans? I dont think they do. Thats one of the upgrades for more power.
