question on catback
I have a 2007 duramax lbz that I took my cat and muffler off, Now I came across a good deal on a 5'' catback. My question is a guy wants my hole set up and he would give me his but his still has the cat, if I use the cat is there any difference on power with or with out the cat?
Sorry for the stupid question. Thanks guys. Last edited by ckresto : 05-15-2008 at 02:39 PM. |

Re: question on catback
I believe on your truck it would increase power if removed. Wait for a couple others to chime in as well.

Re: question on catback
I don't think it will be noticeable power by the seat of the pants.

Re: question on catback
Not enough to notice, losing cats actually cost you a few hp down low, but that's about it. Diesel Power did a dyno article last year, and the cat being removed didn't increase power, but the few it lost was really small, and most likely you wouldn't notice it.

Re: question on catback
on the d-max, do the cats have sensor's to it?
I know on my 04.5 CTD, it had a cat but nothing connected to it. I'd imagine if there were sensors, then it might affect it ![]()

Re: question on catback
No sensors, but it most likely will cause either a stored code (on mine I get 2 EGR codes, but no CEL) and the newer ones I believe the EGR codes will cuase a light, however, he already lost the cat, so I am sure he's dealing with his possible CEL with either tuning or unplugging the EGR. Some of the newer handhelds can disable the egr and also there are the blocker plate and "fingerstick" that can be used to fool the computer as well.

Re: question on catback
Its been off since day one and it's never showed me a code. So if I go to 5' would that give me any better chance of troughing a code. or is there a sound difference?

Re: question on catback
5" is pretty big if your motor is stock
![]() If you plan to do some mods, then 5" right now might work okay ![]()

Re: question on catback
why bother with just a cat back? youre still going to have 3.5" exhaust up to the cat so i would think the only thing it would get you would be louder sound. plus by putting a cat in your truck it might raise the EGT's some, not enough to hurt anything but the lower your EGT's are, the better.

Re: question on catback
Yeah, Foreman is right, your flowing better right now that you will with a 5" catback. You'll only have 3" off of the turbo, then it goes 3.5" into the front pipe, then into the cat and it snakes around (ever look inside one of those?). The cat is also going to muffle your sound so the 5" sound will be negated as well. 5" isn't needed until you are way over 600hp.

I have an LB7 and when I when catless you can feel it in the mid range big time for the better, but I have a diffrent engine with the old school turbo.
