2500 6.5 turbo diesel problem
I've had a problem for about 3 months now i can't seem to get sorted so was wondering if anyone could offer some advice / ideas please?

I have 1997 2500 6.5 diesel turbo.

It started cutting out whilst driving and is now at the point where you could driver for hours with no problem or it would run for just a few seconds if at all.

Things that have been done are

New fuel filter
New inline fuel pump
New cutoff switch
Drained the tank
New fuel relay

HELP please

Smit

Sounds like the PMD is on its way out the door.

Re: 2500 6.5 turbo diesel problem
Pump Mounted Driver aka Fuel Solenoid driver, its located on the injection pump and it controls the amount of fuel. Its a common issue on these motors. Heat is the main cause of failure. Ebay has relocation kits, as well as other suppliers. Best place to move it out of the engine bay. Heath Diesel has a nice kit but with a price but comes with a great warranty and service. Do a search on here and look around and you'll find some more info.

IS that not the fuel cut off switch then? Mounted at the front center of the engine?
Anyone got an image of the part please?

They might have also replaced the PMD while they were in there, i dont know for sure cause i didnt see the bill.

But anywho, that would work except you need a new PMD in combination with that. Get it out of the engine bay, ie behind the bumper or on the skid plate like heaths does. Heaths has an even bigger heatsink. Also give it some time for Chris to chime in or others to assess the situation.

Re: 2500 6.5 turbo diesel problem
Sounds like classic PMD failure. But...

When it stalls is it like someone turned off the key? Do you lose your dash lights? What 'cutoff switch' did you replace?

If it is the PMD (most likely) you will want to buy it from Heath Diesel. You will pay more for it there than anywhere else but Heath's PMD isolator kit comes with a 7 year warranty.

Do not buy 'tested' or 'used but good' PMDs off of Ebay. Remember, 3 months ago YOUR PMD was 'used but good'.

That's because there was a new PMD on the new IP.

A new PMD instead of a whole new IP would have saved you a pile of $$$$$$

Well the part is fitted and just under the hood for the moment and waiting to see if it works or not.

Fingers crossed.
