Looking into 01 Duramax
My cousin is selling his 01 2500hd, xcab, sb, 2wd, DMAX/Alison. It has been a very reliable truck. He bought it new in 01, at 50k miles an injector went bad and GM replaced all 8 under warranty. At 155k 2 injectors went bad and GM again replaced all 8 under warranty. The truck now has 165k miles. He get 20mpg on the highway and 12 mpg pulling his 12k lb horse trailer.

He changes the oil every 3500 miles with Rotella T and has the tranny flushed every 40k and changes the fuel filter every 10-15k miles. The truck runs very strong and smooth. I have seen this truck start when it was 100 degress and -10 outside and it starts and purrs like a kitten.

He will sell me the truck for $10,000. My question is? How are the dmax's holding up with high miles? I plan on doing a mild bullydog programmer with K&N intake and an exhaust down the road and how have these DURAMAX's been holding up for you guys?

Re: Looking into 01 Duramax
man, id jump on that in a second! eventhough its only 2WD that is a killer deal especially if its been maintained the way you say it has. the other main issue with some early dmax's is the head gaskets but if hes made it this far with no issues then chances are its going to be ok. as far as how they hold up over time they seem to be doing great. ive personally seen dmax's with over 350K, 400K and even one with over 550K on them and those are all trucks that pull heavy on a daily basis. theres also a dmax out west somewhere with over 750K the last i knew and that was last year sometime so id say they are definetly built to last.

Thats a good deal. And high miles is not a problem with a dmax.

Re: Looking into 01 Duramax
Thanks for your input fellas!!!! Glad the DMAX'S have been holding up good for you guys, just like a typical CHEVY!!!

What kind of programmers/exhaust/intakes you guys running. I usually don't drive hard but just want some better mpg's, and of course to put a FORD in its place every now and then!!!

Re: Looking into 01 Duramax
Maybe shop around on internet, Look at a PPE alot of people like them. Exhaust, whatever you like. As long as it's a 4" pipe you should be fine. I bought a cheap aluminium gibson single exhaust for mine. Probably doesn't do it justice for sound. I just bought it to breath a little better. Plus the exhaust tip is nice. So yup thats up to you to shop around for.
