Crew Cab Shortbed Diesel Conversion: Need Tank Advice

So I have a 1994 Chevy crew cab 4wd 6.5l auto which started off as a longbed dually. I slid the rear axle leafs and hangars forward 14" to give it a crew cab short bed wheelbase and bolted the shortbed on. The entire job took about 4.5 hours. The only hang up I have is on a fuel tank. The axle now sits under the tank by about 4" with only about 2" of space before contacting the tank. A simple but expensive option would be to lift the truck, but i am not wanting to go this route as this is to be my primary work truck. Does anyone know of a smaller tank that will interchange (or will a shortbed regular gas tank interchange with diesel)or someone who makes custom tanks for this type of application? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Your prolly going to need a short bed fuel tank assuming it different from a long bed dually.. Also I think Sectioning the frame and and cutting out what was not need might have helped your situation here... Just a suggestion...

What he said or cut and weld on the tank, make sure you wash it out with water first.

Re: Crew Cab Shortbed Diesel Conversion: Need Tank Advice

a set of 16 gallon shortbed tanks will bolt right on and cure your problem.

cutting and welding on the tanks is a bad idea... cleaned with water or not.

sectioning the frame wouldn't help matters either, as the tank can only go so far under the back of the cab. the shortbed tanks are the only way to go, unless you were to swap a burb tank under the rear of the bed.

Titan makes high capacity diesel tanks that are pretty cool. I imagine they could help you.
