Opinion on Cehvy Diesel
Well I had a 04 Dodge Cummins Common Rail. Recenetly found out that there are some significant issues with it pertaining to the fuel system. It seems the previous owner must have ran crappy fuel with water in it. The Cummins does not have a good water serperation unit for the new Diesel Fuel. This led to rust forming on the injectors, Injector tubes, Fuel Lines, CP3, Tank and some pitting on the Cylinder heads. To fix it would have cost over 10K. I am selling the truck and buying a Chevy SUV.
My question to you all:
What diesel engine in a chevy is reliable and not to hard to work on. I was looking at the old 6.2L. I would like the duramax but would need to save up. I am looking to buy a truck for no more than 5K..Suggestions please !

Re: Opinion on Cehvy Diesel
That sucks about your Cummins man, It really does... someone else's stupid mistake Fvcked you over. 10k? wow.
As for Easy to work on diesel...6.5L is a decent engine.
A very active member on here has a 2 door Tahoe for sale with a 6.5 Turbo in it.. its red 4x4. check classifieds.
BTW, nothing with come CLOSE to having as much power as your cummins unless its a D-max, the 6.5L in full modded trim still will still be a turd compared to your cummins.
Where in PA are you? 6.5L trucks are plentiful..try to find one decently modified (PMD relocate, everything else to make them live)

Re: Opinion on Cehvy Diesel
Old 1980's GM Military trucks can be had for 800-3000 with 6.2,6.5 turboed and non turboed I have seen (few and VERY far between) an old HMMV go for as little as 4000-5500 (once again rare) and they needed work to be decent mostly inside work tires brakes some other odds and ends. Go to some bases some of them will sell outdated trucks before they goto auction.

Re: Opinion on Cehvy Diesel
Are you really gonna be able to jump out of an 04 truck with 350Hp into an old sluggish rattly rough ridin' tank ??

Re: Opinion on Cehvy Diesel
The 80's military blazers jimmys and suburbans were damn near bullet proof and ran like a MOFO. A few even cam with a 14 bolt rear and a stronger dana front axle, along with a gear t-case.

Well I ended up selling the cummins and got a 05 Tahoe with 34K on it. Its not bad power and its all wheel drive NR4 transfer case.
We will see...
Power I know I will not see it as the cummins, but I have a really bad taste in the mouth on how such a good engine could crap out on me with a little bad fuel. The fuel is just going to get worse off.
For now I guess Ill stick with my gassers !
