Which Programmer?

I have a 2004 2500HD Duramax, and want to put a programmer on it really bad. I like the Banks Six Gun with the IQ Dashboard PC. Anybody tried this or had any luck with it? Also, will it be able to run on my truck without intake and exhaust?

Re: Which Programmer?

I cant talk about the IQ Dash computer, but I do have the 6Gun on my 05 LLY, and I really like it, levels 2 and 3 offer significant improvements in power, and Level 2 nets me about 2 mpg better then stock. I rarely have it on level 3 for more then one trip to the grocery store just for fun, but Level 2 has plently for Towing and everyday driving.

I like the system. I spoke with a local Diesel shop last week about buying a PPE Turner and replacing my 6 Gun. it didnt seem like it to big of a difference on the lower settings. he didnt try to sell me one either. he came off as very honest and just told me to keep the banks tuner.

Re: Which Programmer?

I personally have never ran anything, but know a few people that have, and those who have ran banks have been pleased. Keep in mind all these trucks were used for trailering heavy loads.

Re: Which Programmer?

you will soon find out that serious diesel guys dont really care for banks. yes their stuff does make good power, but its soooo expensive. i got my efi dont for 425, and have a total of about 600 in tunes exhaust and intake and im makin 500 to the ground. to make that with a banks setup it would be wayyyyyy more expensive. but i personally would go with efi live or a ppe handheld. ther are both really good and i have had both and was never displeased. o and quadzilla makes a good programmer as well.

Re: Which Programmer?

I just bout a bully dog gt for my 04.5 lly. the tunes are really good and I am gaining between 2 and 4mpgs when I'm not running it hard! Had a couple problems with it though, first it wouldnt download, rplaced it, then the screen harness didnt wor, replaced it and now the unit does not shut of and kills my battery, dealing with it other than that I really like it but was a bit expensive but worth every penny

Re: Which Programmer?

For a person that has time to learn and create tunes I would recommend EFI Live, or you could buy tunes from others...

For a person that would like to have more power with minimal effort I would recommend PPE.

Re: Which Programmer?

Do you have the LLY or LB7? If you have the LB7 look into getting a Quadzilla. Banks is overpriced

Re: Which Programmer?

1. EFI Live
2. PPE
3. Quadzilla

I'd go with one of those tuners instead of banks.

Re: Which Programmer?

Granted they might be a lil more expensive, but the reason I'm looking at banks is getting full system your not peiceing it together. Intake, Exhaust, tunner all tested together. To my knowledge there isn't any other full system out there. Im still new to the diesel world, but not to modds. my 2c.

I understand where you are coming from, but what I prefer is to get everything that I want. I don't really like getting something I don't want for the truck.

If I had a Dmax I would get EFI Live, AFE Intake, and a 4" exhaust with probably a 5 or 6" single half stack. Might go dual miters though.

Re: Which Programmer?

i vote PPE programmer.

the banks "kit" aka powerpack or "big hoss" is way overpriced, you can peice all that together from other companies for 1/2 the money.

AFE intake, MBRP exhaust, PPE programmer and you'll be haulin'

Re: Which Programmer?

If you like the IQ monitor check out the new Edge CTS Evolution. It will be available for the LLY by the end of the month. Guys like alligator performance and meyer performance have power packages that will give you the programmer, intake, and exhaust in a package that will be cheaper than the banks kit.

Also check out the dieselplace.com so you can get some feedback on the new Edge CTS/CS stuff. A lot of guys really like it.

Why wouldn't you do Edge? Are you familiar at all with the CS/CTS?

edge is cool and all with the monitor and gauges and stuff but for the price you just dont get that much power. it is however a good dependable system, just not much power compared to ppe or efi live

You need to check out the new Race line. The CTS Race on the LBZ/LMM makes similiar power to the PPE Hot+2, and it's less money than the HOT+2. So you get similiar power, and a cool gauge display for less money.

You're right though, when it comes to power it's hard to beat a good custom EFI tune with a canned tuner.
