Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
yes sorry i did mean kit, thank you for the correction i feel like an idiot...to my understanding there are HIDs made for projector style light and ones made for composite style headlights, when my buddy got mine for me he asked what kind of headlight i had...i told hi composite and we went from there...

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
Questions HID guys haha If I want to put some HID bulbs in my offroad lights by just replacing the bulbs, can I use "any" ballast? They all seem to have the same style plugs.. I'm not worried about the brightness since they are for offroad so I don't need a projector in em

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
I actually never thought of that. Good idea! What kind of bulb does your offroad light take? Because you could just buy a kit for that style bulb and you'd be all good.

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
Woot!! new idea in the works for everybody now :) Well most off road lights use a H3 bulb and on ebay I noticed you can get the bulbs for HID's that are H3... Now the ballast is where I got stuck; I also had to get to work so I didn't have to time to hunt to much. With what I have seen, the plug styles that go into the ballast look to be the same, I hope at least.
Defiantly and awesome idea I think, yea they will be horrifically bright but who cares haha they are for OFF ROAD anyways ;) |

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
You could just get one of the eBay h3 kits. They'll come with the ballasts and bulbs and even though they are potentially cheap kits, you won't use them as much as regular headlights so they should last a long time.

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
mannnn this looks fun. i need to do this now. ah this looks so sick, i havent been more excited about any type of mod before! everyone here in alaska uses those cheap blinding kits.
i wasted 250 dollars on an aftermarket projection set which really does suck and the projector is just for looks because this light goes everywhere. so all i need to do is buy a projector(TSX?) and get the ballast and the bulb??? i was seriously just about to buy a cheap HID kit when i saw this about 5 hours ago hahahaha. |

out those cheap projectors and throw in a pair of real ones! The TSX's are what most people are using because they are priced right and not as BIG as some of the others out there, which is good because you don't have a lot of room to work with in our headlights. I have a parts list on the first page of what to look for when you go shopping...good luck! ![]() |

Theres a couple different generations matsu****a ballasts, but the G3s are the potted ones (waterproof) which run anywhere between 160-190 same with the philips. those two are more popular in the retrofitting scene and have a higher price than others. Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
I have TYC projector headlights in my 01 and unlike all the other projector lights I've seen there is no "warning do not use HID in this headlight" sticker and I took it apart one time to see how to cahnge the bulb and its a really small bulb, nothing like factory lights. I was told its the same as the H3. I've also seen headlights similar to mine with the different bulb and it has a cutoff and that "color mod" and all he did was add the ballast and the bulb. his lights are bright and are aimed right making a straight line all the way across like my regular bulbs do now so I'm thinking I might can use these projectors. what do you think? I'm not trying to get out cheap or anything but I don't want to go cutting things and switching everything out if I don't need to.
