I'm not trying to get out cheap or anything but I don't want to go cutting things and switching everything out if I don't need to.
It's worth a shot.....if they don't work out, THEN would be the time to cut out the old projectors.

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
well I'll give it a shot and let you know if it works..now I just gotta find the other stuff that'll work with what I have now. I like the way you did yours though so I might do it anyways for something to do, even though I need to get some paint...nice write-up btw

I would think you could use the tyc projectors. I have a set also and mine use an H1 (i just had to replace one). I like them because they cutoff real nice like the pics that were posted early in this thread. Mine don't have clear glass though its kind of opaque. I was thinking about throwing a cheap kit in there just to see what it looks like. Any ideas? I know I can't spend this much time and money to do it the right way.

I'm the same as you on that one. I think the lights I have in mine now are the same as yours..with like a chrome peice around the projector with holes all in it. they do have a nice cut off, I was thinking about getting that battery thing and changing the bulbs out. too many other projects ahead of that one though so let me know how it works if you try it

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
Yeah I will repost when I get around to completing it. I think I might try a cheaper route that the original poster here. I can't afford to spend hundreds on this mod. I have already spent a fortune on this truck and with two car payments and a baby due any day I have to slow down on the spending.

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
this still do make a difference tbh though. i pointed them down a tad so they arent blinding to everyone so they still are better then the regular bulbs.

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
Alright, so I've finally put some more work into my retro, and I'm getting so close, but I've got two quick questions.

First, I'm doing the build my own mounting brackets, and I was wondering, on yours, it looks like you bolted the angle iron to the housings on the top. On the HID planet article, he used JB weld. I'd rather bolt them, if that was the case on yours.

And two, I'm almost finished my wiring harness, but I'm not sure what to do with the ground from the female 9006 plug. Should I just ground it?

Thanks man, if all goes well I should finish this tomorrow or Friday!

Good to hear
On my mounting bracket I had to use both...the corner over the projector is JB welded and the center section behind the high beam is bolted on.

My advice is to make sure you sand, scuff, scrape, or do whatever you can to get rid of the smooth surface, the JB weld will not stick to it!

On the wiring harness, if I remember correctly, both ends go to the relay. Or maybe I grounded it with the rest of the grounds in the wiring harness?
Maybe this will help...

Yeah, looks like ground goes to 86 and power to 85, its been awhile though so you should double check

Re: HID upgrade...the right way!
The angle pieces you're using, are they 2x2? Cause I just mock measured mine out, and realized it was too small, and it was only 1.25 x 1.25. So I think I'm going to have to go and get some 2x2 tomorrow.
