Exterior questions. Grill/rims/tires/roof rack
all these questions are towards my '97 GMC 2500 Suburban.........

alright so I have some questions...any feedback is awesome.

1. I just ordered 8 lug 22's on ebay for Suburban. I went into Johnson's Tire today pricing summer tires and they said they don't make tires that will fit 22's and support a 3/4 ton vechile. I'm going to call around town but I really don't know what to do. These 22's are my dream! (and well, I don't want $1,000 bucks shot down the drain)

2. Last night I put on an all chrome grill and was planning on using the GMC emblem from the other grill. However the ghetto prongs broke off in the process of removing it from the old grill. How can I get the emblem to stay in place on the new grill?

3. I took off my roof rack before painting, is it alright to leave the roof rack holes as is or should I put some scilicone in?

4. I heard it's not a good idea to put a roll pan on a suburban because of the way the tailgate flips down and sits on the bumper. Is this true? I don't really care much if it is a bad idea...cause honestly, the roll pan is going on no matter what. Just curious.

5. Has anyone ever seen older style caddy tail lights in the pillars of a burban or tahoe? Does it look good? I'm planning on doing this this summer.

6. Dumb question but honestly...how many miles can you go when you're on the first red line of your gas tank gauge? B/c I'll be on the first red line and when I brake it'll move to about 1/8 of a tank. Then when I push the gas again it goes back to the first red line.

7. Is it bad to throw tint over the back window over the de-frost lines? (nooo idea what the real name is from them, sorry.)

Re: Exterior questions. Grill/rims/tires/roof rack
1. Do you use it as a 3/4 ton. From past threads, I didn't think you were that big of a girl.

2. IMO, go billet. BUT, if you want the emblem, there should be a flat spot where you could mount it using nearly any adhesive.

3. Silicone. StylinTrucks also sells billet covers for them. If you haven't had it painted yet, have the holes filled, IMO.

4. Refer to my answer #1. From what I remember, gated SUV's still have straps.

5. OEM location, or higher? OEM location = Higher =

6. I ignore that gauge.

7. My answer is the same as yours from #4... I'm gonna do it regardless.

Re: Exterior questions. Grill/rims/tires/roof rack
6) The fuel sensors on OBS trucks are floats like in a snowmobile tank when you stop the gas flows to the front of the tank and that sensors goes down then when you take off the gas will go back and cause it to either go up or down the best fuel reading is when your at a complete stop for a little bit. but i usually go till it doesnt move anymore but thats coming from a guy that lives in a town with a gas station every block lol.

Re: Exterior questions. Grill/rims/tires/roof rack
1. You're not going to need anything heavy duty on the tires then.

2. My vote would be for 3M double-sided tape.

3. Silicone, or billet (rough and paint to match, if you like)

4. I think you still have connecting straps that carry most of the weight, just like on a pickup.

5. Are you talking about Caddi buckets where your current taillights are, or putting the buckets up higher, as in where the black plastic vents are now.

6. A peice of black tape on the dash will solve this.

There's at least one I know of that I've seen with them in the "blacked out" area you made, and it's fuggin' sweet! However, I can't imagine where you're wanting them would look good in my eyes.

Also, are you tryin' to give BoarsHeadBurban a run?

No, they weren't. I'm pretty sure she's just talking about filling the OEM location, and moving them (the new buckets) higher into the plastic pieces.

4. If your tailgate hits the bumper when its open, then something is wrong. Find out before you put the rollpan on and rip the tailgate off because the bumper was holding it up.

6. Fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool. Stop letting it get so low.

ps. Nice burban, wish I had held out for the 2500.

Personally I'd just go with a nice red LED tailight like BoarsHeadBurban has. Wish I still had my burban...

No, the gate won't hit the rollpan, But a LOT of the frame has to "trimmed" off.
I have 5% tint over my defroster, but I never use it, can't see out the window anyway.
There is not enough depth to put caddy lights in the pillars without MAJOR work.
Opinion: paint those pillars black again!

Re: Exterior questions. Grill/rims/tires/roof rack
1.Nitto and Toyo both make tires that'll accomodate your application.
2.Grind down what's left of the tabs, use 3M emblem tape
3.Silicone,ya.
4.You can put a rollpan on a 'burban.Just test fit it firstmake sure you clear the tailgate.
5.Caddy lights won't work. They require too much depth, you hit the side glass.Use LEDs those'll work.
6.My gas gauge on both my OBS'sbounces around a lot.When it hit's "E" though, it's deadly accurate
7.you can tint over the defrost lines.Removing tint from those is where you develop problems

Re: Exterior questions. Grill/rims/tires/roof rack
personally i would shave the taillights and flushmount an led strip in the pillers. Take a look at the flushie's on www.customclassic.com Id make sure they are as long as the piller tho cause that would look sick.

I agree with the LEDs idea. Flush mount them into the pillar. Would look good IMO.
