Re: tire width?

Depending on how wide your wheel is depends oh tire width, u can only run so wide of a tire on a certain sized wheel, what setup are u trying to achive and can tell u if its to wide for the rim

Re: tire width?

usually you can look up the tire's specs online to see what that brand "recommends". but you can usually fudge quite a bit either way.

Re: tire width?

Try to keep it within about 4 inches. If you are running a really wide tire, such as a 15.50 or something bigger, I might go within 3-6 inches.

Post the size you are wanting to run and we can help you out.

Re: tire width?

What determines it? Well, there are a few different answers to that.

1. A engineer at the tire company.
2. The consideration of how wide or narrow a certain size tire can be with a certain size wheel and be considered safe as far as not posing a threat of coming off the bead.
3. A person at the tire shop and there level of experience and if they can squeeze a wide tire onto a narrow rim.

Now, help us out. Ask what you really meant to ask and tell us sizes that you were thinking.

X2 on that. I always look up the tire specs on www.tirerack.com when I'm curious, I use that feature a lot. Just go to the site, do a lookup by size, and then pick a tire from the results - click "specs" and it'll be at the top of the page. What's handy is all the other sizes available in that model/brand are shown below so you can see what might be a better fit.

Re: tire width?

While that is true that all the manufactures give specs and different tire sites will list these specs, like someone said before you can run tires wider and narrower than what the manufacture says you can.

Yes, which is why I agreed with the quote I posted saying you can fudge a bit either way.

Re: tire width?

aspect ratio also is a big factor. you ain't gonna be able to run 275/55r20s on a 6.5" wide wheel like you could with 265/75r16s

the height of the sidewall helps determine how much flexibility you have on the width

Re: tire width?

Stock wheel=7.5-8" wide. Others have run 12.5's with no problem.

Re: tire width?

What are you trying to accomplish? A taller tire on stock wheels at stock height? A wider tire on stock wheels at stock height? Or A taller and wider tire on stock wheels at stock height?

What size do you have now? Lets start there so we can tell you what wider would be.

Re: tire width?

Alright, that equates out to a 28.75 tall by 9.25 wide tire. Go get some 31x10.5's and you are a little taller and a little wider. Do some cranking and get some 33x12.5's and you will have alot nicer stance.
