anyone figure out that cutaway pic yet?
looks like the very outside shorter strip is the reverse light, does it have white plastic over it?
the middle strip is the running light?
the big bank on the right lights up along with the middle strip when braking?

how are you going to do the backup lights, gmsmallblock?

I plan on using 25 8,000 mcd 20 degree ultra white leds in a group for each reverse light.
Looking deeper into the caddie lights(Thanks for the pics guys) I think I will work on keeping the reflector in with LEDs behind. I am also not going to use the overdriven super bright leds they used rather I will use about 2-3 times as many 6,000-10,000 mcd leds.
Maily because the cost of the heatsink and the super bright leds would put each tail light up close to $500 and reduce the life of each led greatly.

The reverse lights are in a separate housing, the very short strip is the side marker (illuminates along with the taillights when the headlights are on). Here's how the cutaway breaks down...

sweet , looks good guys , i think ill put the emails on hold for a while witht that other guy until you get yours done gmsmallblock , i would much rather get them from you than someone else , keep us updated on the status

i was just looking on ebay , and found theses tails , now i have never liked them in this form , but heres what i was thinking

make 4 led cards to fill in where the lights go , then paint all the crome black , and posibly even put the stock lenses on it instead of useing the clear one , what do you guys think , i may go ahead and get a set of these tails and try it out

Nice thought K1500_4X4
I would leave the silver silver but sepperate the clear outside cover, tape off the reverse light area and give the inside one light coat of red laquer.

Those round holes could easily be filled with These The laquer would diffuse the 15 degree beam from them and be visible from the front and sides, and the silver will still act as a relfector while helping bounce light outward.

gmsmallblock- Great! Thanks for stepping up to the plate. If you make something that can fit in the stock housing then put me on the list. I will paypal the money to ya the same day :)
I dont mind cutting the back of the housing and JB welding the panel in place and caddy style would be great but I'll take pretty much WHATEVER you're making.

Just a quick update.

I have been very busy collecting up parts and getting a few other projects out of the way while I wait for my leds from china

I have a beat up driver's side to cut on first and hopefully test with. I just got a brand new OEM drivers side for my First completed light after testing everything with the beat up one.
I have one more set on order also.

Haven't seen any NBS lights in the mail yet.

I have been checking out a few diffeerent suppliers for LEDs should my factory direct connection in China fail to deliver in a decent amount of time. It's been almost 2 weeks since I ordered. GRRRR I hate to wait but he is offering a killer price even after shipping it's more than 1/2 off retail.
I am getting anxious though.

Hey guys, since this seems to be generating a lot of continued interest, I'm making it a sticky at the top of the Exterior area.

I was just wondering if you could make a set for the 94-98 deville tails? That would plug into the factory wiring harness, if so I would be very interested in them.

That is quite possible but for now custom orders are on hold.
I just got my red LEDs and they are deffinately bright enough.
Waiting on the white ones and about to order bright yellow.
I'll be building circuits by this weekend.

That could be the cuircuit board, have you checked it out? They usually need dielectric grease in the bulb socket to prevent the socket from burning up.

Another update. I managed to make a little progress here while at work and I am seeing spots still.
I've been testing resistors as of course doing the math on the ratings for the new LEDs requires a resistance not made in a standard resistor. I managed to get within 18 ohms with a 470ohm resistor based on the max 14 volts our lighting could get with the alternator running all out.
Man just testing 12 of the red LEDs I am still seeing spots 10 minutes later.
