ttt
making your own would be the way to go, that way you could choose how you want them to light up. i'd like them to light up like the new caddys with the single strip for driving, full red for brakes...
i remember there was someone that was going to try this awhile back, now that i know it's doable (since that company did it) i'm hoping that someone out there knows HOW they did it. only had to take one electrical engineering class for my ME and i don't remember jack, lol!

I epoxied 70 LED's into an old 93 Silverade tail. Bright as he//. Sold the truck before I finished. Its not complicated but tedious.

yeah, that are dim as hell
already had a couple of cellphonians up my tailpipe (thank goodness my truck is tall and has that nice trailer hitch back there, lol), no need to make it 3...
and the other better-spread leds are like 48 bucks a bulb

Hmm I was wondering if anyone had tried those. So no need for me to try, I stick with my good ole fashion bulbs.

the little LED replacement bulbs look kinda cheesey. What we need is a whole flat panel just like what that company offers. Fitting it into the housing wouldnt be a problem with the help of my trusty dremel lol

Hmm. I can make those. I have everything but the leds and some breadboard which are readily available.
How many people are interested and how much would you pay for them? I could have several made up for 94-99 in 3 weeks or less.
I don't have access to an NBS brakelight housing to get the size right.

Let me know and I will price it out tonight.

Hrmm 40 led banks already made to fit

Here are yet more options that are already in production

If there is alot of interest I do have a list of contacts for wholesale LEDs and related components. Most of them have a minumum order limit though so there would have to be a big interest to make it worth it but I am sure I could put together pannels to fill the OEM brake lights for under $100 a pair.
Including the reverse lights, marker lights, and turn signals could get a little more expensive though.

Id like to see 10000 mcd/5mm/red lights used. Price up a '00 lens complete ( park, stop, B/U, and Amber turns) with the most leds possible and I bet youll have your hands full keeping up with the demand. If not I can give it a shot.

heres what i got back from the guy so far

Ryan,
Thanks for the note!!!
On your 88-98 lights they are a single unit.
The RED part of the lens is sonic welded to the housing.
You can only get to the inside of the unit by cutting it apart, install an LED card then closing the housing back up.
Is that something you want to do?
Ron

If it was bright enough it would be worth looking into. Properly done LED's last up to 10 years. No need to open it back up. I wonder if he will tell us the MCD's of a single LED in the setup he proposes

**Btw MCD stands for Microcandella a measurement of brightness**
