Re: New Paint
depends on what all's being painted. My shop just did a complete with half the jams and didn't do the engine bay for 8K. But our job is a step up from typical production.

Re: New Paint
Depends on how good of shape it's in.If it's nice and straight then I would say around $5,000 to $6,000 to make it black.

Re: New Paint
What's the labor rate in Germany?Good thing is, they have awesome paint over there, next to no regulations on that stuff.I went to the Akzo Nobel headquarters in the Netherlands a few years back, for a demo, and their clearcoat over there was way better then the junk we have to use here in the states.Friggin treehuggers!

Re: New Paint
I dunno what the labor rate is in Germany....I wasn't there long enough to find out either. We got deployed to Iraq mid last year and I'm going back home to Oklahoma to get my truck painted since it's sitting in my garage...I know the labor rate in Oklahoma isn't that much I would think becuase of the massive population of hispanics. No offense to anyone

Re: New Paint
LOL!Well, since your truck is already red and from the pictures looks pretty clean it shouldn't cost too much to repaint it.You can eliminate having to do the door jambs,or anything like that.Keeping it simple, just the outside, same color, hurting ecomomy, should be able to get it taken care of for maybe $2500,somewhere around there.

Re: New Paint
don't mean to threadjack, but is $2500 pretty typical for a basic repaint? i havn't done any research on it yet because i'm not quite ready but just looking for a rough idea since we're on the topic. my truck is a black ext. cab short bed and i just want to get a basic repaint to freshen it up. the body is pretty straight minus a couple of small dings. so, what's a normal price for something like that run?

Re: New Paint
It's usually pretty close to that. There are obviously places on the high side and the low side of that spectrum, depending on the shop.Maaco, presumably will always be on the lower end,but you'll get a decent product, while some of the "boutique" style shops will come in higher but usually they're a little more detail oriented. It just depends.

Re: New Paint
Maaco can be a good place to get your car repainted. I got my 96' repainted there when there before I moved overseas and it was really good for the price I paid which believe it or not for a fresh new paintjob it was less than $2000. $1250 to be exact! You just have to know how they work and what options to get for your paintjob to be good. If you don't choose certain options like sand the paint or body fill, then your paintjob will look like ass but if you do all of the sanding and everything else before you take it you can get it for a way cheaper price than I did. You just have to pay them to do the preping lol, which is rediculous otherwise they will just spray over your existing without preping it.

Re: New Paint
i've heard way too many horror stories about getting maaco paint jobs to take my truck there. there's only a handful of maaco jobs that i've heard of turning out good. i don't need a show quality job but i want to get something a little better than stock paint. not only that, but i really don't know what i'm doing when it comes to body work so i want to find a place who will do the sanding and filling as well. i think i'm probably going to take it to a friend's body shop to do it because i know they do good work and i know that he won't rip me off on it.

OMG No... Every experiance I've had with Maaco SUCKED. My cousin had his truck painted and they had to redo it 3 times, each time making it worse than the first. Google them and you'll see all the issues people have had with them. They (at least the one in our area) did hardly any prep work, and did a horrible job spraying it.

Most good paint jobs will cost between $4-$6000 from what I've seen.

your stock paint job will run you at least 3k
stock paint is really nice.

just call around. there was a shop local to me a while back that i just came across and they were working on this really nice older vette. I got a quote from them and it was 2 base and 3 clears, warrantied for 15 years and it was $3500

as for maaco. you can get good work out of them, ive seen some good jobs but also some horror stories. You best bet - find out who does the painting at maaco, and approach him off hours say theres $100 bucks in it for you if you do a really good job and theres another $100 in it for you if its good when i pick it up, and he'll do a good job. The guys there only make like $15 an hour, they know what they're doing just dont care cause they get paid ****.
