Unhappy Life's Annoyances
Got myself a annoying problem here. The ex of 3 months scratched up my truck in a drunken fit the night before labor day. I hadn't even seen it yet when she called me the morning after she did it. Using my motto, 'Act like a child and I'll treat you like one,' I called her mother that night since I felt mother should simply know about it. Ex didn't care for that too much. I don't care.

The problem: she didn't even get it good, its only on the driver side. But it is down to the metal and primer in places. She used a brick from my backyard. She has sworn to me that she will pay whatever to fix it (not her parents) and she understands that the whole truck will need to be done so it'll match yada yada.

I guess I am looking for general insight, its so minor would you even bother getting it painted? Hassle of not having vehicle, etc. The truck just has to last me another 2 yrs when I finally graduate. Paint on the truck was decent for its age but wasn't anything spectacular when I got it last summer '07. A week or so before a rainstorm from the first hurricane this season literally pounded the remaining chipped clear coat off the entire roof of the cab and made water blisters in between the clear coat and color on the hood. I'm gonna go tomorrow and get estimates etc.

Constructive comments?

Pics:

The worst spot, the brick dug in pretty good here.

Door shot, the dark discoloration on the mark is where she tried to color over it with permanent marker. 'Cause I wouldn't have noticed that on my driver door.

Re: Life's Annoyances
If your getting rid of the truck in 2 years, get your money from her and leave it alone IMO. But if you like the truck and want to keep it have it fixed, maybe put a little of your own money with it and have the whole thing painted.

Get it painted. She won't really learn if she has no consequences.

First you don't need to paint the whole thing.I would paint the damaged panels(incuding the parts where the paints falling off.)Have the rest detailed.Bill her crazy ass for painting the whole thing. And try not to ruin your new finish as you run her over.

Estimates:

1. $681.04
2. $811.20
3. $1072.00
4. $500.00

4 is a shop that just opened down here, so I dunno bout that one. 3 was recommended to me by a friend. I have had work done before at 1 on my Bronco, and 2 was on the way to 3.

Re: Life's Annoyances
if the scratches are that deep won't they have started rusting in 2 years?

Wouldn't "act like a child, get treated like one" mean that she needs to learn from this?

Get it fixed right and nice
have the first shop do it and give her a bill from the 3rd shop.

if you can't fix it with a hammer, its an electrical problem

Re: Life's Annoyances
If you're gonna do it, I'd go with 1. You've dealt with them before and the price is the lowest of the 3 that have been in business a while.

Yeah, prolly would rust in that time.

I'm thinkin' I might ask about getting the roof and hood done too; and if its doable with my budget I'll put in some of my money.

Called her today and told her the prices and she's wanting to check out some dude that's in Montgomery that a co-worker told her about to avoid the college town prices.

Which reminds me, do those prices sound right to you guys? Its what I expected to hear, except the $1000 one - that one seemed high to me

Re: Life's Annoyances
If you are getting just the damaged panels done I would say most of them are a little steap. I had body work done and one whole side painted of my 90 stepside for less than 600 bucks. And it was red. Wasn't no macco job either.

Re: Life's Annoyances
Yeah, those prices were just for the damaged bed side and door.
