COMPASS ZONE CALLIBRATION

1.
The zone setting is factory preset to Zone 8. Refer to the “Compass calibration zone” map to verify that the compass zone setting is correct for your geographical location.
2. Press and hold the right button for 3 seconds then release, and the word “ZONE” will briefly appear and then the zone number will be displayed.
3. Press the right hand button repeatedly to cycle the display through all possible zone settings. Stop cycling when the correct zone setting for your location is displayed.
4. Releasing the button for 3 seconds will exit the zone setting mode.

Re: Rear View Mirror
COMPASS CALLIBRATION

1. For optimum calibration, switch off all nonessential electrical accessories (rear window defogger, heater/air conditioning system, spotlight, etc.) and ensure all doors are shut.

2. Drive to an open, level area away from large metallic objects or structures and make certain the ignition switch is in the “ON” position.

3. Press and hold the left button for 3 seconds then release, and the compass will enter the calibration mode. “CAL” and direction will be displayed.

4. Drive slowly in a circle until “CAL” disappears from the display (about two or three times).

The compass is now calibrated.

Where is Hawaii on that chart? That is a good looking mirror and would be nice to have.

Re: Rear View Mirror
Could it be possible that some vehicles may already have the factory connectors for this? Thus saving on manufacturing costs with just using one harness?

My guess would be 4 possibly 5, you could always try it and see which one is the most accurate.

Re: Rear View Mirror
If you are wanting the rear view with the Compass and Temperature make sure that the mirror has both "Comp" and "Temp" buttons on it.

They made a lot of those mirrors with just the Compass and no outside temperature.

If all you are interested in is the compass, there are quite a few around for less than the mirrors with both functions. Keep an eye on eBay.

Re: Rear View Mirror
Toolman, Hawaii is zone 5.

The rearview mirrors are made by Gentex, distributed through the MITO corporation. The following link has all the installation/setting instructions for the standard compass/temp mirrors: http://www.mitocorp.com/flash/nightv...ingmirrors.htm

The next link has the installation/setting instructions for the homelink mirrors:
http://www.mitocorp.com/flash/homeli...ingmirrors.htm

FYI, they can be found used and new for awesome prices on eBay. I picked up a brand new maplight/compass/temp mirror for $150 a couple months back.
The instructions are pretty self explanatory and i've put a few of these in...so if anyone needs some help, drop me a pm and i'll do what i can.

You can replace it with a compass/temp mirror (and temp sensor), but you can't add temp to a compass only mirror.

I got the loaded NON homelink mirror for $150. That was the best deal i could get at the time on eBay. As far as the homelink compatability with your Genie intellicode, YES...with exceptions. It must be a "newer" version (1997-up) that has either an AMBER indicator light or a TRIANGULAR RED indicator light with the homelink icon. The earlier NON-compatible version has just a RED indicator light.

does anyone know how to wire the compass/temp sensor for the overhead console? i got one on ebay and if i put 12v on pins 1 and 2 it comes on and the compass changes but i dont know what the other 4 pins are for or how to calibrate it. gm has a harness kit for 60 something bucks for it but i couldnt find out if it was labeled or just wires with a plug on it. thanks

You need a compass there? How about if the wind is blowing from the ocean you are on the windward side, if it is blowing to the ocean you are not.
