Re: Rear View Mirror
lowdown, I have a OBS tahoe with the compass/temp mirror, but its the one that either diplays the compass or temp. If I was to get a suburban mirror like yours, I wonder if it would just plug up and display both? Hey mark, could you crossreference the part number for the sending unit for these mirrors and see if it comes up the same? If it is I would guestimate that we could just plug up the newer mirror. hmmmmmmm

What kind of opener do you have? On Genie models with rolling code technology, you have to train the homelink with the original transmitter AND train the opener itself with the new homelink.

If your mirror currently has temp and compass, you have all the wires required. As far as if the plug is the same I wouldn't know for sure.

I originally had just the temp mirror in mine and when I put the temp/compass mirror in I just had to run the sensor and ground wires.

Re: Rear View Mirror
When I turn my truck on, the mirror shows 100deg and then goes to the compass. I only have the compass and dimming. So no one knows if we can just add the temp sensor? It's kind of weird that my mirror doesn't say temp on it but when turned on it says 100?

That's the same mirror I had on my truck originally. Mine never really read 100deg, but if I looked at the mirror in the sun (without it being turned on) I could see the 100deg in the glass.

I done some research on it when I had mine and was told that all of the compass only mirrors were like that. I called Gentex on their technical support line and they told me that if the mirror doesn't have a button that says "Temp" then it doesn't have the temperature feature.

That's when I decided to find a mirror that did.

Re: Rear View Mirror
i got another question.... do all FSCs have the screw mount type mirror? or do the newer like 96s have that clip on style mirror?
i need to replace my front windshield since its got a huge crack and well if i could use my old 96 S10 mirror with map lights an dmaybe even autodimming not sure.. its got 4 wires and i dont know how to wire it up. its got orange, yellow, white, black anyone know how i need to wire this puppy up?
im mainly wondering if i could just buy a front windshield outta a newer FSC truck to fit and already have that clip on style mount so i wouldnt have to try and cut off the screw on clip and mount the right clip.
sold old 95
now i have a 93 regcab long bed for my work truck.
and heres my daily driver ;) ya im a GM sinner BUT im geting twice the MPG.

Re: Rear View Mirror
well i know how to replace the windshield as i did it in my 96jimmy windshield. only thing different will be ill need another person to hold it for me.LOL tho i might just buy the windshield and take it to a glass shop to put in depending on how i feel and $$ wise.LOL id rather just drop it off and say DO IT.that way i don thave to work on it.LOL
im mainly just wondering about that mirror clip.... i have removing them because they are on thier so good i dont wanna chance breaking the windshield when removing it i was hoping that newer trucks already had the mirror clip style

Re: Rear View Mirror
In regards to calibrating the compass: When I installed mine, the directions simply stated to drive in a clock-wise circle about 3-5 times. That calibrated mine. Hope this helps out.

Hey Kevin, Welcome aboard.
It's about time you got over here!

My original post were the instructions that came with the mirror. I would imaging that the zone should be set up in order to work properly. When I installed mine it was originally set at the wrong zone and it was off quite a bit.

Maybe you got lucky and yours came from a local truck with the zone already set.

Hey Ray,

Ya know now that you mention it, I did have to set the zone. It's been years since I put it in and tend to forget... But I remember it being Plug-n-Play. I need to get some pics of my truck and put on here. (Show off my baby)

Re: Rear View Mirror
does anyone know how much the plug is for this mirrors from the dealership? I've found a few on ebay, but none come with the plug for the mirror, and not sure if it can be hard wired with it.

Re: Rear View Mirror
I have one for sale in a previous thread . http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...d.php?t=145328

It came off a 02 silverado and has the temp controls, compass, auto dim features and also onstar controls. The temp probe isn't included.

Make me a reasonable offer..

Re: Rear View Mirror
hey,

got lucky on ebay, found a rear view mirror with temp/compass, came with the plug, plust also came with the sensor. I read there is a write up and connecting all the wires. i have still yet to find that thread by searching. Anyone know where this went to, or is it on another board somewhere.
Thanks

Re: Rear View Mirror
Because I have looked around everywhere and finally found it in a thread at
the12volt.com

I pulled a auto dim/compass mirror from my '99 Tahoe that I traded in, I cut the wireing harness at about 6" from the mirror, the temperature sensor about 6" from the sensor (behind the front grill towards the bottom.)

There are 7 wires in the harness you need five for the mirror and 2 for the left and right hand mirrors. I did not take the side mirrors from the 'Hoe so I only needed 5 of the wires.

Red (dark pink) ---- Power ( ignition switched 12 volt)
Black -------------- Ground
Lt. Green -------------- Backup light ( I failed to hook this one up yet.)
Green with Black ---- Temperature probe ( same color at the sensor.)
Brown -------------- Temperature probe (same color at the sensor.)

the light green for the backup light keeps the mirror from dimming while you back. Again there are two other wires but unless you have the side mirrors they are of no use. I did not have to re-calibrate. the system fired right up and works beautifully!
I hope this helps I did some looking around to finally find what I wanted.
