Re: Rear View Mirror
This is an ACDelco connector kit... still in package...so is the mirror, all are brand new, and I am trying to figure out the wiring for the mirror itself as all the wires are white...not individual colors...this is just on the connector kits themself.

Did you look above your headliner? Most trucks already have this harness and connector in place. What year is your truck?

Re: Rear View Mirror
I have a question about the 12 v + power supply connection. Does it need to be connected to a switched supply or a full time supply. Switched with the ignition key or connected to a full time power supply to keep the compass calibrated?

Thanks

I want to change my mirror to one of those comp/autodim/temp mirrors, i took off my overhead console and found that harness your talking about. So does that mean that i can just use that harness and plug it in to the new mirror. Wondering if the temperature feature will work? i dont know if there is a temp sensor installed behind my grille. What do you think...i have a 2000 silverado.
*almost forgot the plug attached to the harness is a 7 pin plug, but theres only 5 wires connected to it. the colors of the wires are GRN/WHITE, BLK/WHITE, then solid BLK, GRN, and RED. Thanks

Re: Rear View Mirror
Take a look thru your grill, if you have the temp sensor already in place it should be about 1 ft from the driver's side headlight, mounted on a horizontal brace in front of the radiator. The connector on it is blue and green. If you don't have the sensor, you may still have the connector, it might be tied off somewhere. My 2001 2500HD did not have the sensor or connector.

Temp sensor--GM PART # 15047946
Connector (special plug for sensor w/10" of wire)--GM PART # 15306078

Both are available from GM Parts Direct.

Other than that, all you need is the mirror. I got mine off ebay. Make sure you get one WITHOUT the Onstar. That one has a much bigger connector on the mirror. 5 wires are ok, I think mine only had 5 wires. I believe the other 2 wires are for driver door mirror dimming.

Let me know if you have any more questions, as I did this exact same mod to my truck.

Re: Rear View Mirror
I'm trying to do this to my 06 W/T. I've got the mirror installed. The compass works, and the temp shows OC.

From what I've read, the wires for the temperatur probe terminate somewhere around the fusebox under the hood, but I can't find them anywhere.

Does anyone know where they are at?

Hi all -

N00B here, I just purchased an 02 Silvy 1500 with the standard boring mirror and I found this thread. Do you think its likely the harness is there on an LS model of an 02 Silvy? I'm not that great at taking stuff apart without brearking it on the way back together.

Re: Rear View Mirror
I have a 00 Silverado and when I lowered the small overhead console, the harness was there. Plugged it in and after the compass calibrated itself, it works. Just need to find the temp sensor wire to connect that up.

To see if you have the harness, (I'll bet you do.), you have to take out the overhead console. To do this, all you do is remove the one screw at the front edge of the console, then slide the console forward a couple of inches. Carefully lower the console a few inches and unplug the lights. Feel around above the headliner thru the hole exposed where the console was. You should find a multi wire harness with a plug on it. That's the one.

Here are the #s if you need them. These are for the temp sensor located behind the grill.

Re: Rear View Mirror
Thank you for the great info. I will take a look at it this weekend to see if I have it.

You can get the connector w/o wiring and wire it yourself much cheaper. At Scoggin ****ey, the connector w/wire $50 or $60. The wires were all white, no color matching. The connector w/o wire, $8. Got the metal inserts at a electronics supply for a dime each, you will need 5. and about 5' of 18 gauge wire.

Re: Rear View Mirror
My 2001 2500HD is an LS and it did not have the sensor already installed. In fact, I had to run wires from the connector by the fuse box down to the front of the radiator for the sensor. It seems to be a crap shoot on whether the sensor is installed or not.

Exclamation Re: Rear View Mirror
Hoping that others are as blessed as I am.....I bought a 2006 GMC Crew Cab that came with the standard day/night mirror. The power pin looked fully wired and the only thing powered on the standard mirror is the passenger side airbag light. I bought an electrochromatic mirror on EBay with compass and temperature (out of an '04 Sierra). Lo and behold, the thing works, plug and play! I had to calibrate the compass (easy instructions in the owners manual) but the truck was already equipped with a temp sensor in the grill. One screw tightened, one plug inserted, and I had a fully functioning mirror for less than 50 bucks. Good luck!
