Re: Rear View Mirror

I've taken mirrors from different models of GM cars, and as long as they have the slide on back and the allen screw to lock it down, they all seem to fit. Go to the junk yard and find a GM vehicle with the mirror you like.

Re: Rear View Mirror

the mirror that I posted about is made to fit the tab on the windshield and it comes with a wiring harness for all of the features that it has, comp, temp, lights, auto dim

It has Outside Temp and Compass. It was a piece of cake to install. I went to the Chevy Dealership and bought the temp sensor (I think it cost me about 13.00) and mounted it up front of the grille.
If you decide to go that route there is a thread here somewhere with the wiring instructions.
You will need to run a wire from the sensor to the mirror.
A wire to a power source
A ground
and there is a wire that goes to your reverse lights to cancel the auto dim feature when backing up.

When you get ready to do the install, the board at 454ss.com has a very well put together article on the install (I wish I had found it when installing mine). It's under thier "Articles" section.

Re: Rear View Mirror

This might be a stupid question, but here goes...
So if I were to get a rear view mirror from a junkyard/ebay/whatever out of another GM vehicle, the compass unit and auto dimming unit are self contained within the unit-in other words-the signal doesn't come from the computer or anything like that? The only wires I would have to run to it are: power, ground, temp sensor and reverse light tap(for autodim)?
Thanks
-Chris

Not a stupid question at all...

You are correct, you will also need the temp sensor to mount behind your grill.

Re: Rear View Mirror

i think....
personaly id rather buy one already ready to drop in!
can someone do this? ive got a over head console with the display.... if someone could get the wires and everything needed id pay ya for it...
or if someone wants to buy it ;) tho when i got it it didnt have the right contor of my 96jimmys roof so i pulled off the fabric and molded it to the roof with some bondo and recovered it with some grey carpet that matched preaty close.... but you can cover it in anything easy enough! just pull it off use your material and some spray glue ;)
80shiped in the lower US...
also its the full length console, dual map lights from and back, and dome light... AND even a internal garage door opener modual..... basicaly it takes the place of the crapy opener that goes up in the consol... basicaly youd never have to deal with remote door opener batteries again! i loved it... but it only worked on one of my garage door openers the 2 where brand new... but the older one worked great!

The compass is integrated, just needs power.
The compass has to be set for your area and then it callibrates itself by driving around.

I can dig up the link for setting it up, it's not hard at all.
