Re: Glass interior started
X2... i was just reading over this again to get some tips, and i hope i can pull this off. i'm attempting some work on my dash to incorperate my autometers and it's driving me crazy. i bought foam from a craft store to make my mold, but maybe i should have used the pink stuff from home depot. only one way to find out

Re: Glass interior started
Cover the foam with the blue or green masking tape & do you glass work off of that. The resin will melt right threw most foams if you don't.

Re: Glass interior started
Thanks everyone,
MONZTER is correct polyester resin will melt most foams .I like to start with epoxy resin first then after a through sanding I go with poly resin for $$$$ reasons. Then For wetting out carbon I like Epoxy better due to the fact that it's clearer than poly . At least the ones I use are. PM me if you have any questions DJ ! Later Dave

Re: Glass interior started
yeaaaaah.... i dunno if my idea is going to work. my whole idea was to keep the stock dash and faceplate intact and then glass the 7 guages i have into it so only the driver can see them.... but that would make the "trim" plate around the guages part of it, so now i don;t like that idea either. it would be too smooth and would clash with the rest of my interior. it took me all day yesterday of planning and cutting up foam to realize this. i'm going to pick up some thin plywood now and see what i can construct to mount my guages. i'll smooth it in after with fiberglass.

Re: Glass interior started
man you are doing a sick job. i attempted to build a center console myself which help a 7 inch touchscreen and my JL 12. but the sub ended up sounding terrible and i dont know why. i think i might not of given it enough space in the box. anyways i was wondering what kind of fabric and what ounce glass you use?

Re: Glass interior started
Thanks for the compliments ,makes the itchy skin worth it.
Andyj_O as far as fabric I go to a big fabric outlet and pick something cheap that has some stretch to it .Make sure the fabric you pick stretches in at least 2 directions . I know some guys use spandex, and it doesn't take a lot of resin to get a shape, but you need to add some glass after or it will crack. As far as the weight of the fiberglass mat ,I have been using Evercoat Sea-Glass ,It does not state a weight on the package. As far as progress I have been concentrating on brakes and have been working on the z06 vette calipers that should be done soon Thanks again Dave
