Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
ok. i re read this whole forum and still get confused. people are saying wire colors change and stuff and the years vary. im gonna try this a different way. i know the wire colors and pins out of the tahoe where i got my dash from (96). i also know what wire is up down etc.

however, i need to know what the wire colors and pins are in my truck (91)to finish it. can someone tell me what wire controls up down etc.

i only need windows since the handles are shaved.

I have the complete interior from a 96 to put into my 92, except for the wiring. Is it easier to splice plug ends or replace the entire dash harness. Im new here....anything will help.

Splice on the ends of all the lights and cluster. You can not just splice on the ends of the ac controls.

I molded in the old controls. Some people have done the ac swap, but it is technical and seldom pulled off.

If I would have practiced first, it would look a lot better.

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
I have been strongly considering this swap lately, just need clarification on a few things i guess, whats known and unknown:

this swap will be in a 94 (350 TBI, DRAC, 4L60e, Power windows and door locks already and have power mirrors that are not currently wired for power):

1)i will need a 95-98 dash and door panels
2) depending on what year the door panels come from, i may or may not need the inner metal door panel as well
3) i will need the steering column bracket from the donor truck to use the 95-98 steering column, or modify the existing bracket
4) i will need to maintain the DRAC unit for proper speedo calibration
5) There currently is not a solid working schedmatic for wiring the 95-98 AC controls, you must retain the 88-94 controls and remount them somwhere
6) i will need the cable linkage for the shifter on the 95-98 column

if any of this is incorrect, or not entirely complete, let me know. i am going to do my best to just get everything from a junked donor truck so i am able to grab everything i need

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
Ok, I'm back. Since I'm lazy and poor, I haven't started my swap yet. A few questions: We have the dash out of a 97 6 cyl, and it's going into my '88 with a 350. I have heard that you have to have the wiring harness out of a truck with a v-8 for it to work, is this true so I'll have to replace the wiring harness in the dash as well, or will I be fine?
Is the VSSC (Vehicle Speed Sensor Calibrator) the same as a DRAC? We can't find a "DRAC" in our '95 shop manual anywhere at all, but we can find a VSSC which appears to be in the same location as where y'all are saying the DRAC is (under the ECM).

And finally, if we replaced the entire HVAC unit (blower motor and housing, relays, etc.) with a 95-98 model, would it drop right in, as well as work with the 97 controls, or is there some other problem that we're going to run into?

Ok, thats all for now, thanks in advance.

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
Hey guys i Have read this Thread for about an Hour.. and here is what i would like to ask...I am determind to do this swap no matter how long it will take me..Here is what i have to start with..

I have a 1993 Chevy Suburban 350 V8 5.7L Auto tranny.

Now some of you are saying that if u do the 96-98 Cluster swap and reconfigure the wiring you can then i can a drop in a 99 Cluster??

If by rewiring for a 96-98 Cluster to use a that year cluster instead of buying a 96-98 cluster, why not just drop in a 99 cluster after rewiring will work?? and a 99 Dash to go along with it?? Will a 99 Dash work and bolt up?? I mean am I missing something here?? if i am pls let me kno..thanks

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
Are you trying to go to the NNBS dashboard? If so, it is not a direct bolt in. If you are going for a 95-98 dash, then it is pretty much a direct replacement except for electrical and steering column.

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
Well since you have the Brown/White wires im assuming you have the 88-90 like mine. I posted somewhere about this problem. I could not for teh life of me find out why my speedo was not working when everything was connected properly. I finally got sick of screwing around I just decided to run a direct power to the DRAC. I ran the +12V power off an ignition circuit and into the DRAC via one of the brown wires on the DRAC ( I think it was pin 8) and bingo it worked.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a shot.

It is on a 90. Many of the wiring things dont cover the 88-90's it seems.

I used the diagram to convert from 90 to 94 and then the diagram to convert from 94 to 98 and everything worked out alright.

A- orange/black A- pink A-pink/black

on the black 6 wire harness both black and the orange/black arent hooked up.
on the black 3 wire the dark blue/white isnt connected
