Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
I'm probably going to start the weekend after next without the door panels (Depending on the answer to my question). I'll post pictures and details when I start.

Question:

The instrument cluster I have for the new dash is from the V-6, can it be modified to work with a V-8, or will it work anyway?

If it has to be modified, but can, please at least point me to where that information is. Thanks.

Does any one know weather or not a 93 1/2 ton instrument cluster assembly will swap into an 89 1/2 ton?
There will never be enough time untill there is no time.

It should match up, but you'll have to wire in the DRAC (VSSC as some places call it) and figure out how to make the tach work.

Check out this thread, it should have a write up. The pictures are a few pages back.

*Edit* I just realized I posted without the link. LOL.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here (If you're talking about the dash with the wiring harness or the whole harness) But either way it should be "possible." Really, anything is possible if you try hard enough with these things, but it's probably easier to use the directions on this thread and just splice the new dash onto the existing harness in your 93.

yea i believe it will be easy just to splice then to get the whole wiring out of a 95. Thanks for the info!

Sounds Like a fun project

How much are 95 plus dashes running at junkyards.
I would imagine 95-6 would be best becuase of the lack of passenger airbags

Eh, good luck finding one... If you do expect at least $200, probably more, depending on quality and the person you're buying from. I got lucky and found one (thanks to the guys here) on craig's list for $85 (complete with cluster, controls, and most of the harness) and it was in perfect shape minus it missing 3 of the vent adjuster slide thingys.

95+ dashes are scarce in junk yards, at least around here. Your best bet is probably going to be e-bay or craig's list.

Well, if you took the airbag out... That gives you a little extra room to play with in the dash, for maybe a monitor or something else useful... I don't care for the pocket you can buy, but I was thinking of either a monitor 'glassed in or maybe a CD changer.

The 95 harness sway is the EASIEST way to go at at. At least in my opinion. How many of you guysreally enjoy your fuse panel hangin around under the dash ? Or your hillybilly rigged heat controls? Or the rest of the crap that gets half assed.

'95's are harder to find around here but i FINALLY got the harness. Its in the back of the ol' pick-up. And heres the kicker .. I put standard in my truck awhile ago and I found a 1995 STANDARD truck LOADED. This truck is exactly what i have build only an ext cab !

So now i have my Standard Tilt Column, 95 harness, 95 computer, clutch neutral switch underhood fuse panel blah blah blah.

Yes, 95-98 style dashes are bolt in, the only diff is the wiring, and that is the purpose of this thread.

Once again, does anyone know how to correct the tach issues with using an instrument cluster out of a v6 and putting into a truck with a v8? I've heard you simply put a resistor between the sensor and the cluster, but I'm not 100% sure of that, and I don't know what ohm resistor to use

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
sorry for the double...

I'm still looking for:

Info on the HVAC control swap without swapping heater boxes (although it is probably possible for me to get my hands on all the stuff for it...)
cluster swap from v-6 to v-8 tach info
If my 88 has a tach wire at all
Info on programming the DRAC/VSSC. I can't figure out the equation someone posted here Multiplying everything doesn't work, dividing the top part by the bottom part doesn't work either. What am I missing?

I was going to start tomorrow, but I don't think it's going to happen unless I can do the HVAC controls at the same time.
