Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
I have not done it. I do have the plastic column piece from a non tilt newer style that I want to mold onto my column. I placed the plastic pieces around my column and they fit decent but the old column sticks out a little farther than I want it to.

Dude, all the info is here on this site. That dash bolts right in and the instrument cluster can be swapped by using the wiring diagram. Two things are hard to do and I don't think anybody has done it successfully, changing out the column and the ac controls.

The only Thing I have left is the column. I got the A/C controls working but havent posted up on it yet, I will hopefully next wednesday when I get to permanatly install the motors. The column requires cutting and welding and lots of fun, some day I will get it done.

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
Yeah, if I had a welder I would put the new style column in. I do have the shroud for it and I can make it work, the only problem I see with just putting the plastic pieces on the old column is the old column sticks out about an inch farther than the new one. It will never be the perfect swap but sometimes being a little custom is just as good as making it perfect.

After everyone making the Heat and A/C controls seem so hard they are actually easy. Theere are different blower motors in 88 though so I only have 3 speeds.

Yea, I did mine a very easy way and only had to splice 3 wires... All my stuff is working, but when I went and slapped my dash back in my truck wont start. But It was backfiring and running crappy on the way home so I think I am on to msd coil #3

Yah Ive burnt 3 coils im on my forth. If when you were testing your wiring did you happen to turn the truck to 'ON' with the key ? If so you over heated teh coil ! I did this twice.

Supossibly it takes 30 mins to over heat and wreck a stock coil but becuase of the charge of the MSD the coil heats up in a mere 5-7 mins :|

Somebody did it by cutting the shaft and welding the new one to the old one. I'm sure the wiring is pretty easy to do, well maybe not for cruise control but whatever.

Cutting it in half would prolly be the best route. I have not done it yet, hopefully sometime soon. Bigger cam and some head work first.

Check with fastmofo250. His truck that he has for sale has the full interior swap http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...d.php?t=217201

*although I was talking to him on msn mess about the truck he has for sale and I asked about the interior swap and he said so the steering column and everything else has been swapped as well. When I asked him why anyone on FSC has came forward in this thread and posted how to do it... just said that it was easy when he did it

Well it is not easy!! I have started on mine and WILL get it in for sure. I have a upper bracket made for the column and need to fab something to support the lower half. The column mounts totally diffrent in the 95-98 trucks TRUST ME!!

Can you take some pictures while doing the swap? I don't see how the original column should hook onto the newer style. Do you know how the wiring is gonna be?

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
The bracket that comes off the cab itself is totally diffrent. So far here is what Ive found. The 2 bolts that hold the column at the upper mounting point need to be extended about 1.5". I cut a plate of 1/8" steel and made a simple extension piece to bring the column forward. The 95-98 column also sits about 1/2" or so more to the left than the 88-94. I will take some pics as I go. I found out that I am going to have to brake a piece of steel for the uppermount I have already made. I have another truck that I have been looking at for a guide to make it look stock. As far as the wiring goes it should not be too bad. I have the harness that the 95-up column plugs into. I on the other hand will not be using ANY gauge wiring from the 95-up trucjs. I am doing ALL autometer gauges. The only thing i need with the column will be starting the truck turn signals and high beams.

Make sure when you put your autometer gauges in to put an ignition hot wire to the battery light wire from the factory gauges or else your alternator will not turn on.

sorry for the dumb questions, but I'm new here. I have a 90 GMC 4.3 V6. What do I need to do to swap my dash cluster? And where is the drac?

Re: 88-94 to 95-98 All Swap Info Compile
I did this conversion myself recently, but I still haven't changed my steering wheel and column yet. The drivers side control to the passenger window is reversed, rolling down the window when I push it to go up. It doesn;t bother me too much because the switch on the passenger side works fine. But if any of you know if the solution to this was found, I would really appreciate it.

I also remember seeing someone in the forums who put a 95-98 steering wheel on a 94-98 steering column. It didn't look too bad. MAybe just swapping that over and custom fitting that cover around the column where the key goes might not look too bad. Anybody have any idea if that will work?
