3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

Has anyone done 3 layers of tint on roll up door glass? Is that possible w/o hurting the window motor?

I've got 5% layered on 35% on the 2front doors
20% layered on the factory 20% on the 2back doors
Both, match out to 2%

I thought it looked good for the 1st week, but every now and then, since the sun is starting to show up more, I can see straight through the truck!
Could I go back, for another layer of like, 35% behind what I've got? Or should I strip them, and do like 5%+15%? Or even double 5%?

Thanks guys.

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

Double 5% has got to be darker than 2.5! My 35+5 measure a true 2% on a meter.

It just kills me that you can still see in at times! Even with 35% across the shield!

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

I am assuming you don't have tint laws in Mississippi. Here in Alabama we have tint laws, but back when it was legal I had (5%) on the side and back windows of my truck and (20%) on the front windshield.

Yes, we have tint laws, but I'm exempt from them.

How hard was it to see outa the shield done in 20%?
I've got 35% across mine with an 8" brow of 20% on top now, and Im curious If I should go with 20%.

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

I'm curious about this doubling layer tint thing...I've got 5% rear and 35% sides. But I'd like darker sides because you can still see me thru the window.... can any tint place do it?

You mean just tinting 5% over your 35% on the doors?

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

I would think that since the tint measurements are based on a percentage of light transmission that layering 5 on top of 5 would be permitting only 5% of 5%. So if you have a clear window that has say 1000 lumens going thorugh it, you should only get 50 lumens with the 5% and 2.5 lumens after the second coating of 5%.

I think you're nuts for tinting it that dark...how do you drive safely?

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

Just have it done as dark as you want since you're exempt.
Layering it isn't bad, but you should be able to find a tint place that will go as dark as you want.
The way it works in texas is, they will tint it as dark as you want, but if you go over legal limit, you don't get a receipt.
Layering it could cause problems if it peels, you are sticking film to film, not film to glass anymore and I don't know about you but I don't trust that.

He's right, they are too thin to have anything to worry about. If it was my truck and I wanted to go THAT dark, I'd strip it and go 5% over 5%.

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

stripe it and do 3 layers of 2.5% and 5% on the shield, you'll still probably be able to see inside but hey, (are you ashamed of being seen in your truck?)haha

anyone can be exempt from the tint laws if they goto an eye doctor and complain about bright lights bothering them

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

I dont know how you can see through your truck with 5 layered on 35. I had 20 layered on 5 on both my fronts, 20 layered on 2.5 on the rear and 35 on the shield and you could only barely see in the front windshield on a sunny day.

That bitch was dark.

I have 5 over 20 on the front 2, double 20 over 5 on the back, and 20 on the windshield with a 5 strip over it. I think its perfect and its very dark...

Re: 3 layers of tint on roll-ups. Is it possible?

Yea I have a 04 white tahoe and i put 20% over stock on the back and side windows, and I have 5% on front 2 windows, and a 5% strip righ tunderneath the AS1 line. And mine is really dark, you can barely see through it, now if I got the whole windsheild done 35% and kept my 5% strip it would be darkness. i dont see how you see through yours like % over stock??

I swear you can! When the sun is just right though the shield, you can see straight through both sides.

I went back to the tint shop today to discuss new ideas, and they put the meter back on it to get some ideas.

The front doors are right on 3%
And the back doors are right on 2%

They told me, once I'm that dark, its really hard to get a noticable difference with a different setup. So, I dunno.

I guess the windshield is still my culprit. I may go back and re-do it in 20, instead of 35. My only problem is, I don't know how well I would be able to see out at night.

Atomic, can you take some pics for me? Please.......?

20% windshield with overlayed 5% strip at the top, 5% over 20% on the front sides, double 20% over 5% on the back 3.

From the inside, I could hardly tell a difference between 35 and 20 on the windshield.
