Yeah, sorry. Why? Seems to me that tinting the windshield might not be such a good idea. Just me though.

You are right, at least by my standards. Its hard enough for me to see out at night with limo tint, even with the windows down, much less with a tinted windshield. I have decided against it.

mn has some stupid laws too, 50% on side windows, but on a pickup the back window and the ext cab windows can legally painted black...not cars though....my advice, put tint on and get a ticked - pay it! then put on as dark as you want - tint isnt a moving violation, my buddy had 50% on his ss and got a ticket, then he went with the 2.5% and they cant do jack

That doesnt make sense. So they can ticket you once and thats it? If they give you a ticket here for tint, and you strip it, pay it, and get it done again, they'll just give you another ticket.

Good luck passing inspection with more than 20% in Texas.

My sister-in-law had 15% on her front door windows and they made her strip the tint off the windows to pass inspection.

Link worked fine for me but your link is way simpler. More rules are on the original link I think, but the pages are kinda "busy"
anything I say is probably wrong, see, you been told

Re: Window Tint Laws By State
Just in case I'm not the only bum in Rhode Island...This site is not up to date. According to RI state law, NO aftermarket tint is legal...only tint from the manufacturer is allowed(must be sandwiched inside the glass), unless you have a medical permit. They changed the law when a cop was shot and killed through a tinted side window. The rest of you guys should check with your own state's website...usually a link off of the DMV section

Re: Window Tint Laws By State
Oooo, 27 is the legal limit now for all windows in SC. Use to be the rear 3 could be whatever you wanted, or the back of a pickup window could be whatever you watned.

Alabama is 35% all the way around. Not sure how the rear windows are interpreted since they come tinted from the factory at 20%.

Re: Window Tint Laws By State
update to the California law

CVC 26708 (d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:

(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.

(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.

(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.

(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the installing company and the material's manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material's manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed according to manufacturer's instructions meets the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the material's manufacturer by full name and street address.

(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.

So the "70%" previously stated is not accurate. Anything on your front three windows (windshield, driver and passenger) would make it a violation. The stuff from GM is 8% already, so you only have 4% to work with to stay within the 88% transmittance requirement from subdivision 1. Furthermore, any time I've had my windows tinted the place makes me sign a release saying the tint is unlawful. This section also tells you where you can put decals and stickers on your windows.

(I use tint as probable cause if I don't have anything else to stop someone for. I went with the 35% so I can still be seen when I'm inside, making the locals a little less nervous when they pull me over at night.)

Re: Window Tint Laws By State
There are no restrictions in Utah for rear and rear/side windows... hello blackout! Front/sides can be 56%.

Cops are pretty lax around here about tint, kid I know has limo tint all the way around, and has the windshield tinted to the line on his '04 Silverado, no problems with him...
