I thought I would post this because there seems to be so many inquiries about bucket seat swaps, and the fact that the original equipment stuff is expensive and getting harder to come by.
'88-98 manual seat bases bench and bucket, are comprised of of the same components. The risers are interchangable; If you have a factory bench, unbolt the horizontal bars that go across the trans tunnel, and you have the riser for one seat.(obviously you will need a shorter spring). You will need another bucket or bench, riser for the second seat. As everyone knows, when going from bench to bucket, you will need to drill holes for the inner mounting. I have owned 4 C/Ks since '88 (88,90,94& 99)All of them had dimples (markings) in the floorpan for factory bucket seat mounts. My '94 suburban had the un-threaded nut and backing plate welded in the proper location beneath the un-drilled floorpan. Mid size '92-'00 pontiac bonneville (and other GM midsizes on the same platform) bucket seats will bolt directly to '88-'98 seat risers with NO MODIFICATIONS, they both share the same riser-to-seat bolt pattern. These seats are cheap, and plentiful, and come in cloth and leather, recline and power lumbar was avialible. I purchased 4 seats for my suburban for $100.00 The power seat units in '88-'94 and '95-'99 C/Ks will also bolt directly up to these with no modifications. Check the pic of my '94 sub. The driver side power unit is from a '98 Tahoe, and the passenger side is my original '94 bench seat riser. No mounting holes were enlarged, slotted,or modified in any way. BTW, I find these seats to be EXTREMELY comfortable. [IMG] [/IMG]Last edited by BHB : 01-10-2008 at 08:05 PM. |

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
Great information!! By the way I love the black over red paint. I been thinking about doing the same to my sportside. Was your truck red or black originally? The silver spoke wheels are tough too! Brand/size/width/backspace??

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
You're saying that with very little creativity I could use Bonneville seats in my truck?
If that is the case, my wife could be real pissed when she gets home.

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
I found a very nice pair of leather power buckets c/w center consol from an '02 Silverado.
Now to find some time to install them. Anyone know the procedure for dyeing the leather?

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
How much creativity am I going to need to make them work?
Is there going to be a fitment problem or just the electrical? I don't have a hope that it's plug and play do I?

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
if your puting nbs seets in an obs arent you going to run into problems with the seet belt? the seet belt is part of the seat on nbs, are you plaing on geting rid of the seetbelts and using the ones built into the nbs seat? that wold be prety sweet but i dont know if its doable

What about in an oobs('91 Suburban, same body as 80's trucks)? Are the mounts the same as the obs?

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
The mounts (slider mechanism) are definitley different. I had a
'85 K3500 crew, a '86 reg cab, and my brother has an '82. Lots of contours in floorpan. I don't know if the seat-to-bracket pattern is the same. you would have to measure hole spacing. BONNIES: Cheap! Availible! Comfortable! Bolt in!!!! ![]() ![]() Quote:

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
This thread is awesome. I've been looking over the past few years for a way to affordably ditch my bench and put in buckets. Now for the question, what color interiors did the Bonnies come in? I like those style seats over the ones out of the Astros, but I don't remember them ever having a red/maroon interior. I do have the option to replace my carpet, as thats on my to-do list (its gone from maroon to a faded out odd lookin greenish tint). However, my dash and door panels will still remain the same color.

Re: OBS bucket seat alternatives
Not sure of all the colors the bonnies came in FYI: they came in60/40 also, I don't know if you are opposed to a two-tone interior. http://www.stockinteriors.com/ will make a carpet in any color you can imagine. My interior is a med/light grey, and the buckets are dark, so for the short term I dyed my center dash pieces (glovebox door,a/c trim, etc,) a graphite color to tie into my dark seats.(see pic)worked out pretty good. It's been a while, but aren't the '88-90 door panels(silverado)two tone?
