cracks under clear coat
I had someone paint my dash looks good but when you look up close you can see cracks in the paint under the clear coat, question I guess is that I am going to have to sand everything back down and start over since its under the clear coat?

Re: cracks under clear coat
when you paint a dash or anything plastic it bonds different than metal, so what you need to do is sand it down and do a bunch of light coats, spray from about 10-12 inches and just barely coat it. then let it dry and go back and do the exact same thing untill there are no bald spots.. good luck

Also, I'd recommend you use SEM paint. Kind of expensive, but the best stuff I've found for plastic. They also have an adhesion primer you should use.

Are you going to redo it yourself or just get the prep work done and have someone else paint it again?

Re: cracks under clear coat
If you are doing a base coat clear coat. You need to use a adheasion promoter. Sorry for the bad spelling. If you dont the paint will not stick to the plastic and wrinckle or crack. So yes you need to start over with the whole project...

Re: cracks under clear coat
Cool thanks! I am in the selling my truck now so may leave it like it is and cause I am already selling this truck pretty cheap! But if i decided to keep it will go ahead and have it sanded back down myself and have someone paint it again!
