pulling console out of bose truck
hey guys,
just like the title says i have a bose truck with the bucket leather seats and that huge console in the middle. has anyone pulled this console out and put a fold down console there? im ruint on my leather seats havin the seat warmers, so if it would be possible to put a seat there i would try to get it recovered to match my existing seats. ive talked to acouple people anout this and nobody can tel me if i can or cant, most of them are to scared to even think about doing that to a truck. what is my best option????
thanks

Re: pulling console out of bose truck
i have taken that console in and out a few times, for the same of wiring and such. I have never really thought bout a fold down bench seat but i wouldn't suggest it. The console mates RIGHT under the climate control, so if you take it out you have this large ugly hole kind of thing. I have some pictures of my truck with it taken out... give me a sec to find them

ok, so you can KINDA see it, i thought i had better then this. See my flash light bolted to the tranny hump. That sits RIGHT up against the console, so look jsut above there and you will see under the dash what looks like a gaint air vent, and above that is a large hole in the dash.... thats where the console goes.
Now i am sure you could find a dash out of the same truck without the console and jsut swap it... but that console is not very wide... those leather buckets SEEM bigger then the cloth bucket with the fold console in the middle... but its hard to say
Just FYI, both seats have to come out before you can take the console out (they use the same mounting bolts and the seats sit ontop of them) and you have to remove that cubby below the cimlate control and remote two bolts... should jsut lift... I may be missing a bolt some where, but those are the major ones

Re: pulling console out of bose truck
heres the most straightforward answer.
yes you can swap it out for a regular flip up style jumpseat, as the mounting brackets under the seat and bolt holes all line up and are the same.
however, you will be left with a large unsightly "hole" under your climate control where the console used to sit.
so unless you manage to take the lower piece out of a wrecked truck or something similar, i highly suggest not doing this because your interior will look like ****.

Re: pulling console out of bose truck
i know all this because i actually did the opposite you want.
i took out my jumpseat and put in a center console, and i found all i the pictures of what i did. so here it is.
there is the console in it, so what you would have
this is what i had to cut out so i could get the console to fit in.. so basically this is the piece you would need to track down, and it would be the whole lower valence.
and finally there is the "hole" on the bottom that you will be left with, hope that clears everything up for you!
and as you can see, it's really ugly when there's nothing there. All the wires hanging down and stuff.. not pretty.

no, see where the hole is, and then to the right is the glove box, well right above it theres the line where it's divided, you will need that whole piece all the way back to under the steering wheel, and it's screwed in there with multiple screws, no glue.

honestly i have no idea, since bose is garbage and i got rid of it as soon as i got the truck. But im sure you could come up with mounting it to the bottom of the seat as there is lots of room, but no protection from spills, dirt, etc. This project is way over your head imo, and you'll end up with something you dont wan't.

Re: pulling console out of bose truck
You could extend the wires on the bose sub and amp and relocate it under the back seat. But I'm not really sure what all good it does. My Tahoe has the amplified bose system and I can't tell a difference.
As for the plastic piece all you need is the piece that goes from the glove box door all the way to under the climate controls. The piece that is under the steering wheel is seperate and there is no need to replace it. It is held together with multiple 7mm screws/bolts and clips along the dash.

yeah, sorry if i made it seem that way, but i meant that you only need it up to the steering wheel, its separated there and you'll see what you need

Re: pulling console out of bose truck
wel the way it seems, you have a easier project than me. all you need is the console, i pretty much need a whole new cab. talk to TurboJugend, he did exactly what you want to do.

It's not that big of deal, plus you can get some pretty good coin for your old console if you put it up on ebay. Them things are like gold. And then you'll almost have nothing in getting the new seat and dash piece.
