The **** ding noise

i dont know if it is just me or what. The dinging noise for when you seat belt is off or your lights or on seems to have gotten louder, and really annoying. Does this get louder? Or am i just imaging it? Can it be fixed if this thing does happen

Re: The **** ding noise

Try this -

Condition/Concern:
A customer might comment that the audible chimes (headlight, door, key) are too loud and they wish to have the chime volume lowered. Currently there is no procedure in SI-2000 to adjust the volume of the Chime.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Chime Level Adjustment:

The radio is used to adjust the vehicle's chime level. To change the volume level of the chime, press and hold push-button 6 with the ignition on and the radio power off. The volume level will change from the normal level to loud, and LOUD will appear on the radio display. To change back to the default or normal setting, press and hold push-button 6 again. The volume level will change from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will appear on the radio display.

Note: Each time the chime volume is changed, three chimes will sound to indicate the new volume selected.

Re: The **** ding noise

Aftermarket radios dont support the chime function by themselves, it requires a special harness, and some of those have a volume control on them. Pull the radio out and see if his harness has this control, its probably maxed out.

Re: The **** ding noise

There's a simple fix for the seat belt chime. Buckle the seat belt. It seems to work every darn time for me!

Re: The **** ding noise

88-98 trucks you can either remove or modify the chime module. It's the black box under the dash next to the power distribution block.

99-02 the chime is in the BCM. I haven't messed with mine.

03-06 is integrated into the stereo & BCM. I haven't messed with this one either

07+ You can disable the seatbelt light and chime bu unplugging the 2-wire connector on the right side of the drivers seat. It goes to the seatbelt and when unplugged, the truck things the belt is buckled, thus eliminating the chime/light.

Ya i do but there are times like just pulling the truck to the back yard or my lights are still on or other things i like having the noise just not as loud...

i put a after market radio in a few months back with that little box thing. i will go out there and check to see if it has a volume control on it. or put my old head unit in to change it.

thanks for all the help ladies and gentleman

What about the passenger seat though? The NNBS dings and flashes at you if the passenger isn't buckled up too.

Best way to avoid annoying dinging is to buckle up, and turn the lights off when you turn the truck off!

Re: The **** ding noise

Alot of the aftermarket boxes for the chimes do not have a volume control on them and are definitely too loud. What I do for a lot of customers that claim that the chime is too loud is to take a piece of soft foam and zip tie it a round the box so that it covers the speaker opening on it. That usually muffles it enough to make it not so obnoxious.

Re: The **** ding noise

I have always unplugged the wires for the driver's seatbelt under the seat.

Re: The **** ding noise

I taped the holes with electrical tape, and it was better. But, I may fill the holes with silicone next.
