Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

Anyone know how to get the code for the paint to match the truck's color? I went on duplicolor's website and found nothing.

Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

I'm pretty sure that duplicolor doesn't use the same code as the manufacturer. But I may be wrong. I'll look into it.

Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

What color are you using? It seems to be a pretty close match to the factory pewter. I have a 2000 similar to your and would love to try my luck!

What's a good way to do the buffing? Some pieces i've done need buffing. I just don't know how to go about it.

I use some rubbing compound on a buffer, Then I polish it out.

Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

Heres a pic of a door handle I painted for my buddy. FYI the handle in the middle of the bucket is painted from the factory, came off my door handles when I installed the billet.

The bucket is the piece I painted. Can you tell a difference?

^ Looks great! Those are kinda hard to do because of being able to get down into the handle. Good job.

Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

Great job and Great Thread. I painted my front lip on my BMW 325 with Spray Can Paint. But, i had to do it 3 times total to get a good finish. ALOT of sanding is the key and patience

Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

any suggestions on the edges however? they come to be 1 of my worst fears and i always end up over sanding/spraying the edges and getting runs.

if i missed it, sand in a circular motion correct?

Re: Official How to paint textured pieces!

If runs scare you then do more light coats then 2 heavy coats. I usually do 1 light coat with 10 mins flash then proceed it with 2 medium wet coats with ten minutes between again. I also wait at least 1 hour after to spray the clear. The humidity where I'm at is hell for paint.
