Nice truck though !
because there are things on the truck that really dont make sense, nor does his logic on why they're there (or not there).

the Rock Jock centersection by itself is $1000, vs a complete hub to hub 60 that you dont have to have custom built for $1000 (high end)... evev if he were to take the "boneyard" 60, and throw all of the internals away, it would still come out cheaper, and doing the job just as well with the addition of a $150 cover.

the ubolt flip... you can buy the centersection for $1000, but not spend $80 not to drag ubolts when it is taken offroad.

and why would you have a stronger front axle, and a weaker rear axle? the rear is driven 100% of the time, so it should be stronger.

so the rock jock was necessary, but $70 worth of parts so you're not dragging rear ubolts is "too much"? thank you for confirming my suspicions.
The front and rear moser are both 60 axles one just has the high pinion, so as far as axles they cant be that much different in strength. The actual axles are a lot thicker and stronger then the stock 10 bolt i was running, which i was surprised it didn't break with the beating it took and after 130,000 miles as a work truck. Many people run 35-38" tires on the stock axle with no problems.
i had 31" tires on it and typically if i nailed it going 55 or less they spun. And i did that a lot lol

I have kept this truck like new since 1996. The reason i am building this truck is to have as an emergency vehicle that is reliable, not to bash it across rocks for fun. So i doubt ill be dragging my u bolts. What suspicions do you have of me?

I don't know exactly yet, but i will when it's done.

Yesterday i went by and they had the exhaust done on it, ended up putting a magnaflow 2 in 2 out with a x crossover inside the muffler. ill have to get a sound clip of it because it really toned down the loudness.

i had 2 magnaflow race series originally and it sounded like straight pipes, then i got 2 super 44's hoping to muffle it some, which it did a little at idle and low rpm but no change above 2500 rpm, so i couldn't be happier with the sound of it now.

I'm not sure about the 15 inch rims, but i don't think they would fit. i don't know where they got the axle from, but it came in parts, i saw the axle shafts i believe they are 35 spline and i don't think i could ever snap them.

that you took a truck to a shop, told them build a big truck, and i'll pay the bill.

if you really believe that a semi floating dana 60 rear axle is comparable to a dana 60 front axle, i dont care what kind of axles its got in it, its weaker. if you break an axle shaft, you're losing a rear wheel. the dana 60 front wont do that, nor will any full floating axle. just because its good in a front axle, doesnt mean its good in a rear axle application... look at the 8.5" 10 bolt for example. with moderate sized tires and a driver who pays attention to what he's doing, it will live a long healthy life. put it in the rear, and you're breaking it on sub-30" tires...

just because it says Dana and 60 on it does not make it good.

and FWIW, the Dana 60 SF rear was available in alot of 1/2 ton trucks back in the day. you've just installed a 1/2 ton rear, and a beefed 1 ton front axle.

So you point out everything you find wrong with his work but you haven't said what axle i should have used?

Nice truck but I think your wasting your time with an SAS, and a truck with a Blower and that much engine is pretty far from reliable.

Looks like bad cab bushings to me.

Truck looks good, well built, but I have to agree with GreaseDog on the axle issue.

Re: almost done with lift

dont listen to grease dog, it seems like every time someone does an sas or a lift he gets testy and grouchy... my PO is that he thinks he's better and smarter than EVERYONE on the forum and if your not up to par with him your no good and so is your truck... granite i dont have near as much knowledge about trucks as him.

dont argue with him, its pointless, just crap filling up your thread.

on a side note, truck looks great, wish i could do that kind of build. Cant wait to see the final pictures.

why is a sas a waste of time and what makes his engine unreliable? his engine could take a ton more boost and still be fine, tranny may need a build i'm not sure what he has there but i'm sure the engine is fine and reliable and sfa is more reliable than ifs.

Oh he's a little testy that's true, but he knows his stuff, and doesn't want anyone to build an unsafe vehicle, which I don't think this truck is.

He's wasting his time, because he really doesn't need it, a Cognito or DC would have done him just fine for what he needs. If he is not doing anything he is worried about the u-bolts dragging through everything, the general beef for an SAS isn't really required. Granted it's a kickass engine and I'm sure it runs the balls off most things, but if it's reliabilty you want leave it stock. much less things to go wrong. I'm sure it took hours upon hours of tweaking to get that thing where it is. Never said anything about the diff, just that the truck is pretty far out there for what he said he wants.

Engine has been perfect for sure, it has a 4l80 with a shift kit and 4.5 quart extra pan.

I'll stay out of the drivetrain debate.

I'm more interested in better pictures of the welds on the lower link frame mounts if possible. It may be the picutres, but from what's shown they look pretty bad for professional work.
