Cheap but functional 12v air pump??

Hey guys,

Can you recommend a cheap but good portable (12v) air pump that I can use to refill my tires after being offroad? I want to reduce pressure for offroad, then pump back up for the ride home.

I don't go very often so don't want to put a lot of money into it.

Re: Cheap but functional 12v air pump??

Superflow MV50 is highly popular with a lot of guys. Cheap, and pushes a good volume of air. Most cheapie compressors will inflate to 125+ psi, but take FOREVER to fill a tire. The MV50 has a decent sized piston, so it won't reach as high of pressure, but moves more volume.

This compressor is packaged under several different brands and part numbers. Mine was "Master Flow Tsunami MF-1050", exact same compressor. I just saw one the other day, I think it was at Walmart, but I can't remember exactly.

Here's a review

Here's some mods

I modified mine as well. Put a 60 psi gauge on it for a little more accuracy, and also changed the fitting for a quick connect and standard hose. Used a tire chuck that clamps on.

Mine would fill a 33x10.50 on a 8" wide wheel from 10 psi to 24 psi in a little over 2 minutes. Not fast, but a heck of a lot faster than the cigirette lighter powered compressors are.

Superflow looks perfect. Any idea where I can find one? Your link suggested it was discontinued.

I'd check auto parts stores around you. They might not show anything online, but have one on the shelf.

Re: Cheap but functional 12v air pump??

how much is "not alot"?

i have a Viair 380c compressor. it will fill my 3 gallon tank from 0-200PSI in 10 minutes. it will fill my 305/70-16 tire form flat to 40 in 5 minutes with an empty tank. full tank of air, the tank alone will put the tire at 20 PSI,

Re: Cheap but functional 12v air pump??

I have a couple of the C-H compressors from wally mall around they do allright for the money and I never get in a hurry anyway so the slow time is no problem. I can say though both have been through some bad drops being submerged and then frozen and the bleeding things still work. One is the first generation they came out with and it looks like it has been dragged every mile it's been and the other still has some blue on it the lights still work and so do the gauges. I'm convinced these things are either so well made or so crappily made they are almost indestructable.
