Re: Ford Keys & Torsion Bar Cranking/Replacing **TECH**
if you have never had your bars out, then you need to get a BFH and a pin or large punch and go to town, just dont hit your fingers, i did and it hurt

I have a really nice BFH, but they weren't even budging, but i didn't got to town on it actually, i only beat on it for about 5 minutes, then got frustrated and decided to just crank the key's all the way up. it should fit my new 33's just fine.

i'll end up putting the key's in later though haha

When I unscrewed the adjusting screw, the key stayed stuck at the top, as if the screw was still tightened all the way. Why?

Re: Ford Keys & Torsion Bar Cranking/Replacing **TECH**
I guess, I was kind of scared to beat it down, so I just tightened the screw up again.

I'm having a problem getting my LCA screws back in, it doesnt seem to want to line up. Would a tense torsion bar be the cause of that?

it would probably help, ive heard nothing but great things about bilstien 5100's, my truck rides pretty rough and ive only got the stock keys cranked up along with a 6" lift and im going to go with the bilstiens sometime in the future. what size tires are you running? with those green keys just be ready to replace ball joints much more often then normal because of the added stress of being cranked up that high. ive replaced my uppers twice in 2 years and again thats still with stock keys.

why did you put green keys in just to run 285's? they fit fine with stock keys cranked. your shocks may also be just plain worn out, are they stock and how many miles on them?

Re: Ford Keys & Torsion Bar Cranking/Replacing **TECH**
So I need to replace my RH torsion bar on my '95. I need help finding out the right part for my truck. At the beginning of this thread there's the list of all the part codes. Are those based in part to the VIN on my truck? The old owner re-sprayed the under carriage so there's no ID on the torsions. Thanks in advance 4 the help.

Better off buying a set. reason #1,you may never find the exact match to your other one. reason #2 even if you do match your other bar, they will not have the same spring rate due to brand new vs a 13 year old bar. Reason #3 I have a set for sale

I'm running 285s in my 91 1/2 ton with the keys cranked all the way, there was barley any rubbing when I put the tires on, only when you turned the wheels all the way L/R, and only on the driver's side, I just had to shave off less than a 1/2" from the bumper.

Re: Ford Keys & Torsion Bar Cranking/Replacing **TECH**
Hello...I am new to the site and having read this thread in it's entirety....ok i skipped a few pages but i read most of it...so here is what i seem to have gathered from this vast wealth of knowledge....I just bought a 1997 GMC 1500 extended cab short bed.It already has 3 inch body lift blocks and a 3 inch block in the rear. The Torsion bars have also been cranked up pretty high. The Upper control arm was on the bumpstop.I lowered it and gave myself about a 1/2 inch of space. So here come the questions.....How do i know where stock torsion bar height was....My bars only had 1 tag..part number 15528960 which from the page one list comes out to be GH at 7161.....so my next question is do i use ford part number XL3Z5B328CA for my truck....and if so do i just put it in until the bolts are tight on the keys then adjust the height from there.....I have 33x12.5x15 yokahama geolanders on it and it sits nice i just don't like the control arms being so close to the stops. The truck is mainly a daily driver and both a tow rig for my samurai and a trail and slight mud wheeler. So it does see the dirt often enough for it to be a problem at times but i don't use it heavy enough nor do i have the cash for a full suspension lift. Thanks in advance for the help and time...Joey

OOOOPPPPSSSS i forgot i have Rancho 5000's all around for a 4 inch lift...i know they aren't the best but they were what i could get for the cash locally at 45 a piece....again thanks...Joey

Re: Ford Keys & Torsion Bar Cranking/Replacing **TECH**
Hi all, I'm new to this board, but not to the Chevys. I've read hundreds of posts and pages upon pages of information regarding keys and T-bars and WoooOoowW!!! I did not know that there was that much technical info and confusion regarding our trucks! Here's my situation: I've got an 05 1500HD 4x4 with green keys and YH t-bars from the factory. I bought ORU torsion keys thinking I'd be able to level out the truck. WRONG! The ORU key has the same index as my green key! Now, I'm stuck and dont know what to do What key or t-bar do I need to level my truck out? I thought this would be straight forward, but I did not know that GM used soooo many different keys and t-bars I'd like to get my truck up and sittin purdy. Any help or info is appreciated!!!!
