Buying tires! Help!
I am in need of some tires...I really really want a mud terrain tire, but I do have a 45-60 min commute to work everyday so an all-terrain would be a more practice choice, but I really want a mud terrain look. Am I going to regret gettin a M/T over an A/T?
Also, I have 265/75/16's right now, I sort of want to go up to 285/75/16's. I have a 2001 Silvy Z71 ECSB. Would there be rubbing? Should I just stick with the stock size? Also what tires should I look into...I cant afford too much...I sort of want to stay around the $500 price range...give or take! Please help! All suggestions/comments welcome! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Buying tires! Help!
Would I have to trim anything to get them on. Right now I can get 265's (Coopers) for 100 bucks each on Eastcoasttires.com. Is trimming required for 285's?

Re: Buying tires! Help!
depending on the tires it should be no sweat. my buddys runnig 285/75/16 bfg mt's on his stock o2 ecsb chevy...had to crank the torsion bars a little. and the driver side inner fender wheel had to be zip tied back, the tire would grab them in reverse.. as far a tires go hands down bfg mt. they do great on the road as weel as the mud and the look bad as hell. do you have fender flares?

Re: Buying tires! Help!
I was thinking about getting the General Grabbers from Tirerack. like $117 for 285's. great reviews on their site. I'm in the same shape you're in. I drive a large amount onroad but go to muddy jobsites often and need something aggressive. good luck.

Re: Buying tires! Help!
I voted for the Nitto terra grapplers. They look agressive and are agressive. Best A/T tire that I've ever had in the mud. And you could easily fit a 285. With a lil bit of TB crankin you could even fit 295's or 305's.

Re: Buying tires! Help!
i wouldn't go much wider that 285 on those stock rims. I've had massive capping and wearing problems trying to keep the air pressure perfect.

Does anyone have any used A/T's or M/T's for sale? With decent tread life on them? 265 or 285's

Re: Buying tires! Help!
I have an 02 Silverado ECSB and have been running LT285/75/16 Dueler A/T's on the stock wheels with no problems whatsoever as far as clearance, forward & reverse, lock to lock. Truck is totally stock. Looks good too.
For inexpensive 285's, check out www.nebraskatire.com -- I heard about them from someone else on this site -- have not called them or bought anything from them though. They have sets of 4 off-brand 285 A/T's for $475. Go to Lt. Truck Hot Deals. While we are on this subject, I too need some new tires. Does anyone have any experience with the Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX? Just trying to do something different, and thought they looked pretty cool. Plus they have quite a bit of siping for the wet and snow. Another possible is the Nitto Terra Grapplers, although in a 285 they are 32.76" diameter, while the Mickey T MTX in a 285 is 33.0" -- not much, but hey, bigger is better...... The Dueler 285 A/T runs 32.9" dia. Any opinions and/or experience would be appreciated. |

Re: Buying tires! Help!
I have the Destination M/T's, they are not that loud, they wear awesome and slow (i've had two sets) and they do GREAT in the mud. I wouldnt have any other tire, and you'll regret getting an A/T for your Z...most all terrains i've had do poor in the mud, the m/t's are a huge upgrade. Everyone down here has A/T on their 4x4's and why even have the a 4x4 if you are limited to what you can drive through by a bitch tire?
you cant beat the look of a stock z with big fat M/T's. i have 285/75/16, and thats the biggest you'll get without a lift. they dont rub anywhere...but i doubt you stay under $500. Heres a pic of my truck with them, they look great, its kinda hard to tell in this pic as it isnot a good one. in this pic they have about 50,000 miles on them and have a 1/4" tread left. i rotate regularly. ![]() ![]() ![]() do a search on the destination M/T. you should find nothing but positive things written on them. Yea I really like mine, I'm very glad I went with something different than the BFG A/T's. I have 33 x 12.50 x 15's. I need to get some better pics of them.

Re: Buying tires! Help!
My last truck was a 2001 GMC Sierra Z-71 regular cab, and I ran 305/70R16 Maxxis Buckshot Mudders with no problems. They may have rubbed on tight turns or what-not, but I never really noticed anything. I had them on stock rims though. I went ahead & jacked my torsion bars up & added a 3" block in the rear to replace the stock 2"ers about a month after I had the tires on. A friend of mine had an '02 Chevy Ext Cab & ran 305s on stock rims with no problems. If anything, just take a knife & trim that lil plastic "spoiler" (thats what we call it) at a slight angle & you wont have any clearance issues what-so-ever.

Re: Buying tires! Help!
this poll shows that you all recommend an A/T tire for a Z...??? whats the point of having a 4 wheel drive if the tires slick over? Had a lot of bad experiences with A/T's off road
