Re: Arizona
i dont know about mud yet but if your ever in tucson you can hit redington pass and its decent rock trails and camping by chiva falls but you need 4x4 and a lift and a good rear limited slip

Re: Arizona
I don't know of any trails in the city. If you are looking for mudding, after it rains hit up any one of the many unfinished construction lots to the far east or west. As far as just outside the city, there are massive amounts of legit trails. Some of my favorite trails are the unmaintained forest roads deep in the national forests. Don't let the nomenclature of Forest Road fool you, they can get seriously gnarley.

Re: Arizona
what part of the valley?
There are so many places to go out here. Been here 7 months and loving that I have access to so many trails less than an hour from my front door.

Are you over in mesa bigmookied ? i have found some areas to fool around over there. Sometimes take a drive to AJ to see the strip clubs and mild wheeling conditions on the outer areas

Re: Arizona
I am in Johnson Ranch. So probably the same distande from AJ as you.
Check out some of my other posts and see the damage I just did off the 79 in Box Canyon. If you ever want to go wheeling shoot me a pm. Probably not so much for the titty bars, but some wheeling and beer is cool.

Re: Arizona
There's a nasty arsed trail up by lake pleasant, can't remember the name of the town it takes you to though. My boss recently rode it on his quad with a group of buddies and it took them about 4 hours with their quads. Did it once in my Z71, and there's a few spots wwhere I had to find a way around in oder to continue. in vheicle it's about 6-7 hours to do. Definatley worth your time. You can pick up trail maps from like game and fish dept. etc. and it'll show the trail i'm talking about.
Dang, wish i could remember the name of the trail ![]()

This would be Old Forest Road 51 (Abandoned and not Maintained for 20+ Years). Takes you from Cow Creek Road up through the Bradshaw Mountains to the town of Crown King. You go through several old mining towns along the way and it is cool if you get off onto some of the side roads and check out the old mines. It is 6 + hours in lowrange and best attemted with a buddy or two with their rigs. There are some very washed out and off camber portions that need a spotter to avoid rolling down the mountain or getting body damage. I have done this trail 20 or more times and everywhere I go, I come back to the "Crown King Trail" as a Standard. Most of the obstacles have a bypass but there are a couple that you must negotiate. It is a difficult trail but I always do it in my stock Z-71. I LOVE this trail!!! There is also a trail system running around north of Lake Pleasant that takes you past a cool old Hohokam Indian Fortress from which you can see the whole valley, get there by going North on 17 and get off on the first exit past the Carefree Highway and head west, you will find it. Be ready for some deep sand and somtimes mud that gets people stuck there all the time. There are numerous other trails I have done in the east and West Valley that are good as well. PM me and we can talk on the phone and I will give better directions. I miss being there for the wheeling.

Re: Arizona
IIf you go down the old mine trials, just be really careful about getting out and site seeing. A lot of the old mines were never covered up or properly sealed. Tehre were a few deaths last year from people falling into mines I believe.

Re: Arizona
you ride, AJ has a good track and there are many open areas to fool around in the valley. im starting to like AZ desert style riding, so much better than bikes in the dunes

Re: Arizona
There's a fun run you can take from Picacho Peak area to Florence. You can take it by yourself if you are careful. I have used it a few times coming back from Tucson to Queen Creek. There are some area where you can let her run pretty good, but you need to make sure your shocks are up to snuff as the wash board sometimes sneaks up on you and can really beat the crap out of you.
If you want to find alot of the fire roads/USFS roads get a copy of Street Atlas USA. You would be amazed the stuff you can find on there, and Google Earth (free) is also a great way to look for trails. You would be amazed at how well some of the unmarked trails show up on there. The funny thing is, I just came back from working in the Chicago area, and most of the dirt roads around here are better than the surface streets there.
