Weird problem anyone might answer

The fuel filter on my Mitsubishi pick up is (was?) mounted under the bed. I changed the fuel pump, so I fiogured I might as well change the filter too just to play safe (original filter 1990 truck, 130,000 miles)I put the wrench on it and go to remove it, and the lines snap off it, so I just removed the flex lines going to it, replaced the whole thing with hardline and no filter, and the truck runs fine, but now I have no fuel filter aside from the strainer sock on the pump. So Im looking for a filter I can just put in the flex line in the engine compartment, something with a universal nipple on either end. Anybody know of a filter I could get, what car it came off of? I could care less what its off of, but its got to be for a fuel injected car, any ideas. The idiots at the parts store need a mdel/year.
Thanks

You might get something like this:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-12304/
a general purpose aftermarket filter. Be sure you get one that can handle fuel injection pressures; one for a carb engine would not handle it. Also - if it has 37 degree AN flares don't try to use the regular 45 degree flares, it will leak. Lots of automotive machine shops can make up custom lines; if you don't have the tools you might have a shop make up the adapters. Also be sure you use fuel hose with a high enough pressure rating.

Yeah, Mr.T got the right idea, just go to any store that sells parts (autozone would be your best bet) and look for any aftermarket universal fuel filter. Just be sure to buy one that will fit your line size and pressure rating.
