Re: Dodge 5.9 gas motor.

I had a 5.9 in my durango, it was a good motor had plenty of power and never had any problems with it... I didn't have the Durango long I only put 90k miles on it but it didn't use any oil

Re: Dodge 5.9 gas motor.

My best friend has a ECSB 1998 Dodge 4x4 Ram with the 5.9 in it and it is a beast, I think he has 125k miles on it and going strong. Trans shifts pretty rough but doesnt slip at all. It's got a lot of power...

Re: Dodge 5.9 gas motor.

My old roommate has a 5.9 in his 99 Dakota RT. It gets up and goes pretty well for a little truck. Has all kinds of low end torque, but kind of runs out of steam in the upper RPM's.

He had the motor replaced cause of some bad rings at about 80k miles or so. But besides that he hasnt had any problems that i know of. It is also his "show" truck now though. So it only gets driving about 1k miles a year.

Re: Dodge 5.9 gas motor.

only problems youre going to have is the external balancer. its the same basic motor as the 5.2 and theyre bout as tried and trued as a ford 302 or chevy 350. neither one are fast revving but the 5.9 builds awesome torque. the 5.2 is pretty much a work horse, although it doesnt have much torque or hp it never whines about having to work. i had both. my 5.2 actually blew up threw a chain of freak events. brake fluid in the intake i replaced it with a 5.9 gas and couldnt be happier.
