I couldn't agree more. The difference between 20* and 23* on my ricer was night and day. I went from decent traction in 2nd gear to pretty much no traction. Then from 5,250+ I gave it 25 total (with boost) and it just was not the same car. I assume the Edelbrock heads are not a fast burn design, and they're aluminum, and the CR sucks so they'd need to run more to make up for the inefficiency anyway, that motor'd probably take quite a bit of timing. But then again they didn't tune the Ford worth a shjt either, so how much has yet to be unlocked from it?

both trucks are fairly slow, it all about what you do to them. you would rather have a small block ford to play with rather than a big block chevy? could you imagine how bad that 454 would be if it had a turbo with the intake, heads and cam setup it has?
o yea, and what is a ford fan doing on this forum? your just gonna end up like stook lol

I love SVTs, but I like the 454SS too. I'd probably pick the Lightning because it handles better, is more rare, and is just as fast stock to stock. I would take a gen 2 lightning over just about any chevy truck ever made, those are just plain FAST.

yea becasue them 5.4s are really well known in the afermarket chevy trucks offer you an engine thats not just some "truck" motor. whens the last time you went to the drag strip and saw someone with a 5.4 truck motor in there race car lol
not to mention it is the ultimate slap in the face to ford when the joe gibs silverado came with the same amount of boost but only offered it on the smallest v8 chevy offers, why? becasue could you imagine a 6.0 with 8 pounds of boost, chevy just coldnt do it, they would be making more hp than the corvet.

uhh... no they're not. We all have a different definition of what fast is. It doesn't take much at all to get a 5.3 to outrun one.

That's actually a pretty common swap. I've seen 5 here locally.

it makes power. You'd be surprised... the 5.4 is a very capable performer.

i wouldn't put it on the same level as something like a 6.0. but i guess any motor will make power with the right parts... what do these folks have the 5.4s in?

well, just because the 5.4 outperforms what the mustang came with doesn't make it a real performer... i guess to put it simply, what ever a 5.4 is in, a 6.0 would be faster, mod to mod, or stock to stock... not to mention, the 6.0 was designed for performance, the 5.4 was designed for a truck, and making one perform is more of an afterthought, not what it was intended for...

Was not impressed at all with them in the trucks. The modular motors are stout as any V8 i have ever seen in stock form, but it doesn't seem to translate it's power well in stock form. Mustang GT's are pretty fun to drive but it doesn't seem like i am getting all 300hp. Same goes for the 5.4L in the trucks, it just feels like it's being held back by something.

The same could be said for any of the gm products too. Throw a tune on it and its a totally different animal.

But what really proved this point for me is that my 98 GMC Sierra with a 4.3L/4L60E combo actually felt more powerful below 3500rpm's than my buddies 5.4L/auto Ford F-150 (think it was a 99).
I'm not saying my truck is awesome or anything, it is a work truck and that is how it is used. But i thought it was weird that my truck with a 60hp/100ft.lbs deficit would feel just as, or more powerful. Plus i am missing 2 cylinders, his was running great and so was mine.
I'm not sure what gearset he had but i can imagine it wasn't tall gearing (his is 4x4 as well)

This SO true. Every GM truck on the road deserves to have performance PCM tune.

Re: 90 454SS vs 94 Lightning - TrucksTV
a 454 ss and a 351w lightning? lets compare apples to apples....a 460 lightning would be a better comparison.
I'm a ford guy but also have chevy's and like my chevy's too (my duramax eats powerstrokes), the lightning was much more even with 100 less cubes, just like if you compared a 5.7 impala ss to a 4.6 maurauder, Sorry to say but Ford had the better idea, the lightning handled way better as well, now if you look at current tech, GM rocks in the engine dept but the 2nd gen lighning has yet to be beat as far as factory offerings.
