Re: stroker choice

If you already have the block, go 383. A 400 will cost far more than you'll sell that 350 for and everybody knows 400 use a short rod, which ultimately causes the bores to wear quicker. Use a 350, build your stroker on something like 10:1 with a 6" rod and vortec heads. And if you're going to pay the $400 for a TBI/Vortec intake, then pay someone to write a chip for it, man up and spring for Holley's stealth ram or GM's Ramjet or Edelbrock has something along those lines. Then you can re-tune it (for free, with your laptop) anytime you want. Replace the cam, punch some buttons, and bam! No shipping, no waiting, and some almost auto-tune. Oh, better power AND mileage than a TBI, too. (no hard feelings, I have a TBI also) Just my opinion.

And to the guy knocking over bores- you're right. With the exception of stroker kits (which come with .030 pistons) there is no need to ever pay for an overbore if the service limits aren't close to exceeding and the bore is acceptably round.

400s come from the factory with short rods, that doesnt mean they cant be changed. i've put 6.125" rods in a 400 before.

not all stroker kits come with oversized pistons... here are 88 kits for a Gen I 350 Chevy... with a stock 4" bore. if you're installing a new rotating assembly into a block, and you dont bore it, you're retarded. why start with something that isnt 110% perfect just to save $100? the straighter the bore, the better the rings will seal, the better the engine will run.

Re: stroker choice

yep, any machine shop will have good used 5.7" rods to drop in that 400, once resized...or better yet, get aftermarket 6.0" rods. Then you easily out displace the 383. Unless your on the cheap, I wouldn't use thestock 400 rods.
