Good Aftermarket Heads for Gen 1 Vortecs?
Are there any good aftermarket heads for Gen 1 Vortecs(96'-00')?

The newest GM heads are teh large and smallport Vortec Bowtie heads. eh largports are the hottest heads available for Vortec engines, but are large and should be used on 383 and larger engines IMO.

here is some more Vortec info. You will find that its tough to beat the stock L31 cats iron heads low lift flow numbers. GM has the money and the engineering facilities to produce excellent flowing heads.

I also believe Patriot Performance and AFR have heads with the vortec bolt pattern.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine is that the factory Vortec head is a pretty awesome head for most street usage. It flows excellent stock and the combustion chamber is great for a flat top piston. They can be machined for 2.02 and 1.60 valves if desired. The only thing I don't like is the press fit rocker studs and the lame valve springs but both of those items can be upgraded easily and cheaply.

They are the highest flowing factory GEn 1 smallblock Chev head EVER.
Port the exhaust for big flow gains.
