You need to get either a Wester's or Nelson's tuned PCM.

damn thats a lotta stuff! i've been wondering some easy stuff to do to get a little bit more power out of my 5.3 in my tahoe, mostly just a shade more low end torque. Sounds like headers is the most reasonable option... yes?

also this list only goes up to 2002.. 2003 should be the same right?

do y'all recommend anything else sub $700 for low end torque for my 5.3? Thanks fellas!

Can I recommend something for tuning your PCM? Do a search for HPTuners, it allows you to modify all of your pcm values to how ever you choose. Plus it has a scanner that logs all of your pcm values and it can even deleted trouble codes. Very worthwhile program if you want to tune your 99+ V8 truck for more power.

What about some headers? There's so many, what would fit a 00' 4.8? And still be legal.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
What is the best way to spend $1500 on a 5.3L? I'm interested in exhaust, Air-Flo, and some sort of computer programmer, and any thing else I can get my hands on within my budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1LT serving in OIF2, cant wait to get back to my Z-71.

Thanks!

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Well I've done most of this stuff. The thing that made the biggest difference was the cam. I'm running a Lunati 55002. Most of you have automatics so you will need to use a higher stall torque converter to compensate for the slight loss of low end power. Also raising the rev limiter will probably be required to get the most out the extended power band. You can use the stock valvesprings with this model so the cam and supplies will run you around $400. If you tow or do not wish to change the converter I would look for a different cam. There are plenty available from Competition, Crane, Crower and some more I can't think of right now. Anyway a lot of bang for the buck but a lot more work.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
I've installed a hypertech power programmer III, flowmaster 30 series cat-back duals and a K&N fipk, on my 03 sierra, total cost was about $1600 cdn. (1200-1300 u.s.).The results were pretty impressive although I doubt the performance gain claimed by the manufacturers is that high. The stock h.p. was 295 after the mods the claimed h.p. gains should have bumped me up to 350-360 ponies. The exhaust sounds awesome and the programmer, air-box mods improved responsiveness, especially at mid rpms. Not bad gains for the money. Smoked two hemis, bring on the fords!!

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
I had a Jet chip on my 5.3. Had many problems...truck would not shift and also had problems with the gauges not reading correctly after installation of the chip. I know it was not a problem with the installation beacuse my buddy had one of the guys from jet install it for me....I would stay away from jet.
