I had the same problem with my hypertech and i found that it was the rev limiter. I was hitting the rev limiter before the auctal shift point therefore it wouldnt shift. Try raising the limiter higher and see, it worked for me

What Now?
Hi guys. Been away for a while but my ex just said to choose her or my truck.........hmmm....sure like my truck..:)

Just spent that last month or so doing a lot of bolt-on mods, here's the list:

Gibson Extreme dual cat-back (noticeable SOTP gain)
Hypertech HPP3 (love the shift points but nothing drastic in gains)
K&N FIPK 77 Series (noticeable SOTP gain and cool sound)
Granatelli MAF (Is it doing anything?? Idle now is at 500....grrrrrr )
Edelbrock Shorty Ceramic Headers (definite SOTP feel...painful install...re-use the old donut gasket...cheap b@s$trds)
Flex-a-lite Elec Fan (received wrong size fan last week...need the 292 for 28" radiator.....anyone considering this unit should measure yours before ordering a 282......mine should be installed next week)
Hypertech 180 thermo.....I'm sure my engine likes it..

Now.....I am wondering what next.....other than supercharging (we only have 90 octane in Alaska) I'm running my HPP3 at 93 setting with Octane Booster and no knocks or pings.
1.8 rockers? Is this worth the $$?
Custom PCM (I can sell the HPP3 pretty easily)....That Wait4Me PCM is sounding really good for $150
Throttle Body (does anyone know is this does anything?)
Throttle Spacer?
Nitrous?.....Anyone running Nitrous on an NBS?

Anything else......Bolt On....????? I need more power!! I can hang with Lightnings and SSs.....but still beating them depends on the situation.
2002, ECSB, 5.3L, Whipple 6psi, Nelson tune, 44lb Injectors, Flex-A-Lite E-Fan, Edelbrock Headers, Gibson Cat Back, Granatelli MAF, Walbro 392, 180 stat, NGK, Taylor wires, Zinik 18s, Cooper ZeonXST, Street Scene grill, CF tails, BOSS Snowplow.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
I did not see a throttle body bypass. I have added one to my 4.8. I was looking for power mods when I came across this mob that was 17.00 and it freed up an average of 8 hp. I also did not see the flowmaster mmuscle truck exhaust. I just got mine and am going to add it this weekend.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Stg.1 EFI system for GM vehicles(nitrous express). 100 shot. It is a wet
system(don't get a dry system) that is adjustable from 50-150hp to the rear wheels. very simple to install. its pretty straigth forward. i installed a ZEX direct port injection for my buddies 2005 Honda S2000 and I can honestly say I never want to do it again. I would suggest you not activate the system for any longer than 15sec. at a time. If you have the system activated for too long at any one time you will melt the magnets on the solenoids. If that happens, the entire solenoid has to be replaced. You can run the nitrous as much as you want till your bottles dry(take this with a grain of salt, please!) as long as bottle pressure is maintained and you keep your runs under 15 seconds(i keep it under 10) then you won't have any problems. be sure to pick up the Iceman Pure-Flo nitrous solenoid(has purge built in) and replace the solenoid they give you with this one. it will clear your lines of all fluids(the nitrous will liquify when not under pressure and it will give you better performance). also, since your in alaska, i'd HIGHLY suggest getting a bottle heater to keep bottle pressure at 900-1050psi BEFORE it hits the solenoid. Try to keep yoru tanks(yes i 5lb tanks, one where the stock subwoofer was and the other on the other side, I'm very lazy and don't feel like removing them and refilling them all the time) at least a quarter full. you should pick up a Gen-x kit as well(so you don't "accidentally get high" off of medical grade nitrous oxide...on a side note. there is no difference in medical grade or the other stuff u get at gas refil stations. Just that non medical grade has a different element(can't remember what its called) that gives you SEVERE headaches when 'accidentally' inhaled. all you need is at least premium pump gas, colder plugs and upgraded ignition(i still need to upgrade the ignition). th ignition isn't a must, but would help. as far as activation of the system is concerned, you can go 3 ways. wide open throttle switch, electronic and push button. choose according to your driving style! for instance,I use a push button because my driving style is...well to piss off any many people as i can(i'm always at WOT). i stomp on the gas with the nitrous from stop light to stop light and sometimes flying down the freeway in the middle of the night. you can configure your set up all you want, even have the ability to change the amount of shots for every activation while you drive.

i will be moving up to alaska soon(hopefully), within the next 3 months or so. If you want I can help you install it.

K&N drop in filter and Superchips programmer (play with it a little - don't just accept the "performance" setting - manually adjust shift pressure and shift point settings - it is easy) cost less than 400 bucks and provides a noticible difference in my '01 5.3 Tahoe.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Just re-posting to this thread as well for the quickest response. Hey guys..............quick question here. New to the board and I figure this would be the best place for this question to be answered. I'm not new to the scene as I have a hopped up Grand Cherokee. My father has an 03' Burb 5.3 - He tows a trailer and wants a lil xtra power. 1st of all think intake, but he has heard thru people that with the oil type filters like K&N and AirRaid, mess up/contaminate the sensor that is located inside the factory piping ----- hense, replacing it once a year to the tune of $100. Have you guys had any probs with the aftermarket intakes and screwing up sensors and such or is it a load of crap? Thx guys

We built a 99 5.3 shortbed. swapped in a 6.0 block (stock) pretty nasty cam, 4.8 heads, no port work, no headers, just true dual w/ flow's, 3500 stall, traction bars and ET streets. w/ 150 shot It ran 11.30's. no tune. Just programer.
