Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Howdy all,
Hope this thread isn't dead yet. I've seen several references to the throttle body by-pass on this thread. Never heard of it. I would like to ask a couple questions. 1) Is this applicable to an '02 6.0 liter 2) If so what is it and how is it done? Thanks for any help. ![]() '02 Silverado 2500 HD, Crew Cab, Short Bed, 6.0 Liter, Automatic, 3" exhaust, K&N drop in, Nelson Tune, 295/75/R16 BFG ATKO's, Custom Wheels, Nerf Bars, Remote Start![]() '02 GMC Yukon SLT, Wife's Ride |

the throttle body. this is a necessary item in 40° or colder temps with humidity above 25%. itll prevent icing. other than that, rip it.. who needs 220° inlet air? Quote:

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Hello all. I have a 2002 Flex-fuel 5.3L Suburban and I want to start modding my truck. So far I have a Magnaflow Cat-back exhaust and CAI. I want to know what I should get next as far as price vs gains
Airaid TBS: $100.00 I know it doesnt do much, but I could use a little more low-end grunt which I noticed on friends' trucks. And I have noticed you get a pretty impressive powerband over stock w/a spacer and the cold air intake Spacer= low-end to mid-range CAI= mid-range to high-end Granetelli MAF: $299.99 (I've heard they do about as much as "descreening" the MAF so can't I just get the spacer, descreen the MAF, keep $200 in my pocket, and save up for the tuner which I heard works better with "entry level" mods already done? Other suggestions in that general price range ($100-$300)? |

I've got the Airraid and can vouch for it's power increase. An outstanding unit!

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Im Not ASE Certified but AEM Brute Force Intake $379.99
I see headers but how about a section for Cat back exhaust. It is a power adder. I know there would be variation for dual/single exhaust but maybe we can standardize it some how.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Hey ya'll! I'm new here to this site and attempting to modify my truck for some power gains. Ya'll have some awsome mods to your rigs along with some pricey items. I am on a limited budget and would like to increase the performance in my "99" 5.3 Z71 without braking my bank account? I have already installed green air intake system and noticed a little increase in response and power. I was thinking about getting a programmer or doing a Nelson or Wait4me performance tune. Which one will control(eliminate torque management)? I hear that will release my engines true hp/tq potential?
Any and all suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Hey Guys,
I have just came across a killer deal on an 02LS1 intake manifold. Anybody ever put one of these on the 5.3?? I'm like 90% it would work fine, but what kinda power gains would I be lookin at? I don't wanna take the time to screw with that if i'm gonna get like 5HP. |

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
I have an 01 silverado 5.3L 4x4. I have added the following:
Airaid intake Ganatelli Mass Airflow Sensor dual exhaust (but not catback) Poweraid TBS hypertech PPIII programmed 160 Deg. T-stat What would one recomend next? Also I was thinking about a 3" exhaust and turn downs. Will true duals work on the 5.3 or will it throw a code and cause it to run bad. Any help on what I can do with my exhaust would be appreciated. I think I want to try 3" and turn downs, but am interested in advice from others.

I'm no pro, but I'm learning all I can. Your stock intake was designed for loads of tourque, like a truck should have. The vette/camaro was a little different. I don't know what would be required to put it on, but I would guess you would gain quite a bit of upper end power, at the loss of low end grunt. |
