You wire them inline on your o2 sensors, and then you can cut your cats completely off. My check engine light still comes on, but the mileage is good, power is better without the cats, louder, and best of all no replacing the $75 o2 sensors. Plus I can turn off the check engine light if I want with the programmer.
I have a couple Q's: first, what is this vette tranny mod??? I have the ability to adjust shift points and firmness with the programmer, would I still benefit from this?
Also, I want some decently priced shorty headers that DO NOT LEAK! Any suggestions based on experience? Thanks alot!

Your check engine light shouldn't be on if you have O2 simulators on unless they're not doing their job. I would find out what the code is for, might be for something unrelated.
Do a search for the 'Vette tranny mod, it's very common and others have explained it better. I also believe there is a write-up on how to do it and what it does.
I also believe that shorty headers aren't very beneficial on the newer LS style engines (99+), maybe someone can correct me on this?

I have yet to see any proof of real gains from this modification. I say if you live where it gets very cold I would leave it alone.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
Could we change the title of this from 99-02 to 99-up or GENIII. A lot of people ask these questions for 03-up and I guess think these same things don't apply.

Re: Power mods of 99-02 5.3 V8
besides pulling the silencer out of the air box and taking out the screens in the MAFS is there anything else i can do for free? i was thinking of cutting the inner fender where it meets the box to make 1 big hole instead of 2 little ones has anyone tried this and what was the result if any... i plan on using a 4" rubber "quick coupler" and a 45degree street coupling with a piece of 4"tubing from the hardware store to replace the stock modular intake tube should be less then 20 $, then later on ill extend a cone filter into the fender and get rid of the stock box all together... any thoughts??

Does anyone have any input on swapping parts out with LS parts? Like intakes, cams, pistons, heads, etc.?
