Re: TBI Mods.
Did the Vortec swap on my 1995 350 TBI Tahoe along with some other goodies (newly rebuilt):

Comp Cams 260H K-Kit 212/212 @ .050 440/440 110 degrees (cam/springs/lifters/chain)
Comp Cams Magnum Pro 1.6:1 rockers
Ported high flow throttle body (640 cfm)
Injector spacer
Hypertec power charger
GM Performance (Edelbrock) Vortec-TBI aluminum air intake
Air baffle delete/ K&N replacement filter
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator w/inline guage (14psi)
180 degree thermostat
MSD ignition
MSD wires
Accel cap and rotors
Edelbrock ceramic shorty headers
Magnaflow cat back - (this weekend)

Presently educating myself to program a custom chip. I have the timing set to 10 degrees - no probs. Anyone else running a similar setup? Still tuning. Maybe another week or so I'll dyno this slightly more than stock daily driver.

Re: TBI Mods.
FYI i removed my fuel pressure regulator today on my 95 Z71 5.7L to make it adjustable and it already had an adjustment screw on it. It was set at 12psi and required me to take it apart and slightly heat it to loosen the locktight and it needed a #10 torx driver but it had a tamper resistant pin in the middle that i removed and all i could get out of it was 13psi with the stock screw. A longer screw could most likely get it higher.

Re: TBI Mods.
I am pretty new to fuel injected engines, and I was wondering what are some of the easiest and cheapest ways to upgrade a TBI (im looking at an 89 1/2 ton reg cab short box,and im sure that is TBI) and i was looking to find things to do to get some better MPG and performance, like exhaust, intake (what would be the best and cheapest) and i dunno what else. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: TBI Mods.
Here are, in my opinion, upgrades that make the most noticable improvements.

K&N drop in filter. (do not waste the $$ on the FIPK)
Some sort of free flowing exhaust. (flowmaster, magnaflow etc. pick yer poison)
Underdrive pullys. (2 piece set to keep the A/C under control)
170deg thermostat (160 may be a little too cool depending where you live)
Get an electric fan setup (Perma-cool 16" works great with the 170 thermostat)
TBI spacer, injector spacer and adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Aftermarket chip, (Fastchip or learn to program your own)
Transmission cooler (if it is an automatic)
Synthetic oil (I used to use Mobil 1 but now going back to castrol)

Don't waste your money on shorty headers. You won't notice them unless you upgrade your cam/intake. And even then, longtubes will be the best bet.

Can't think of anything else right now but this should get you started.

Re: TBI Mods.
oh..and i flipped my lid...took off that dumb peipe of pipe from the manifold to the intak off...and took off the gasket on the rear of the hood....sounds great, runs better then before, etc etc.
im gonna do them tbi mods next week...my question is did anyone make tbi spacers? what did you use? where did you get it?
also...i havnt looked at the FPR, but i was thinking to make it more easily adjustable try this: on older dirt bikes, and my 92 fzr, for the idle adjustment, had a wire with a little handle, with the rest of the wire inside a wire casing (like clutch/throttle cables) and on the other end had a little connector. so you can mount the cable and run it up under there, and secure the wire housing real good. then, when you twist the end, the inner cable spins but the outer housing dont.again, havnt looked yet, not sure how much room is available...but, to you that have done it. you think that would work?

Re: TBI Mods.
i only like the loud pipes about 1/2 the time mines just like that... just the muffler removed it was like that when i bought my truck... tho my trucks performance blows! ill be removing my cat and instaling a flowmaster 40 DELTA some time this spring... but id like to use 2 exaust electric cutouts so i can totaly open up the pipes when i like or have it going thru the muffler quiting it down.... tho ill instal just the muffler first and hopefully ill like it enough to maybe just use it and forget about the exaust bypass....

Re: TBI Mods.
About the air cleaner lid flip.....ok if they sell air filters with out covers...like on dragsters er' somthin then why is it so bad to flip ours?? And engines run better with more air and colder air....but look....when yer lid is not flipped you get
(---this much---) cold air but when it is you get (-------------------this much------------) hot air so doesnt the the more hot air cancle out the les cold air. Man, this is hard to explain!

Oh if some of ya are lookin into buying TB spacers.... GOOD IDEA
If you have a 88-95 go ahead it gives great top end. Dont buy it if you have 96-present it doesnt do anything. Oh and when you have a TB spacer and flip yer lid it makes a nice loud whistle almost sounds like its a tubo. As for that big ugly bulky air restricter box its two pieces. Take a heat gun to it to soften up the plastic. you can pry the center tube out of that box for a free ram air tube.

One more thing if you need to regain some lost HP go buy a bottle of Sea foam....works like magic.

Re: TBI Mods.
You guys will get a good laugh on how I flipped my lid, the torch made quick work of that restrictive intake. She is not the prettiest, but she sure gets more air.. lol

Re: TBI Mods.
thats not funny... just disapointing

now your realy given it alot of hot air....... at least with the lid just fliped it would still suck some air from the fender that would be cooler....
id say expand the think with a bigger air filter and run the duct work, maybe cut the fender hole alittle bigger....
