Re: TBI Mods.
O.k... I've done the following mods: dumped the PCV spacer ring, added a 5-inch thick air filter to the stock air cleaner (yep, it's all open now; I'll post pics later) and pulled out the weather strip to get fresh air....
Finished the interface cable for WinALDL (and it even works!!!!), and took it out for a test run... The oxygen sensor voltages were ALL over the map... ranging from .009 all the way to .990 and everything in between... At first I thought it was running right at .85 or so on WOT, but apparently it was still in open-loop mode... I do have a couple of data log files if anyone wants to take a look; either as Excel spreadsheets (with a graph) or as raw text. Bad oxygen sensor, or something else? Was gonna check the O2 voltage before I went to changing the injectors or pressure regulator or anthing else more invasive, or a new chip... -blaine Last edited by Frankenbiker : 08-03-2005 at 10:28 PM. Re: TBI Mods.
well for my 95 the hot chip with 170stat it says Chip is good for 20hp and improved power above 3000 rpm.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT where i bought mine from him..... 136bucks for it BUT well worth it in my opinion! i love it! i can tell a difference!!!!! i can spin the tires now and after i get the computer problem figured out then i know ill be realy able to smoke em even with this little 305 ![]() tho eventualy i will upgrade to a 350 for sure! but for now this chip is well worth the money!

Re: TBI Mods.
what gears are you running in that truck? sounds like you're happy with it.
I've been looking at his chips, too, but wanted to wait till I got some data from my ECM to make sure it would handle it... the motor's new, but the fuel pump has 230K miles on it. :-)-blaine |

Re: TBI Mods.
well, since the ECM data shows I'm running well over .850 on the O2 sensor, maybe I don't need a fuel pump. :-)
At least you've got better gears than I do... Mine's stuck right now with 3.08's... Sure, I get 19 MPG on the highway if I behave myself, but since I spend more time sitting in traffic than I do running on open freeway, it doesn't make that much of a difference. 3.73's will probably be on the way once I get some time to put it in the shop. -blaine |

Re: TBI Mods.
Well, I did some of the TBI mods. I shaved the ridges, radiused the TB and polished it. I also raised the Injector pod. I left the fuel pressure alone (for now). I can't say that the butt dyno noticed a huge difference, but I DID notice at least some difference. The fuel mileage HAS increased though. Usually, at a 1/2 tank I was at 200 miles, now I'm at 235 miles and still above a 1/2 tank. I'll find out what my new mileage by the end of the week.
So, I agree that the TBI mods DO WORK! Next on the wait list is the TBI spacer itself. I'm thinking of the phenolic one. Besides the heat dissipation, are there any benefits? |

Re: TBI Mods.
I can't speak for him, but with the way my fuel gauge works, 200 miles on a half-tank isn't too special; after that, the fuel gauge takes a nose dive and you get 100 miles on the last half.
I've gotten 400 miles on a 23-gallon tank ONCE. It's possible if you're going STRICTLY on the freeway, and behaving yourself at 65-70 with the cruise set. And lately, the STRICTLY freeway part has been a LOT more difficult than the behaving myself part. ![]() 320-350 miles on a tank is average. Didn't change much after the mods I did; my foot's too happy. ![]() (Oh, incidentally; TBI-350, TH700R4, 3.08 gears, 31x10.50 tires) -blaine Last edited by Frankenbiker : 08-17-2005 at 02:07 PM. |

Re: TBI Mods.
After a 1/2 tank it does nosedive. I filled up today at 285 miles and put in 18.4 gallons. It comes out to about 15.48 mpg, and previously I was getting 14.8-15 mpg.

You've got to be kidding me. I average about 540 miles on 30 gallons and still have around 4 gallons when I fill up. That is driving about 80% city, 20% highway. My last long highway trips were about 700 miles on about 30 gallons. FSV, 312 TBI, 700r4, 3.08 gears |

Re: TBI Mods.
FSVs have 34 gallon tanks plus about 1 in the tube. So make it 35 gallons. Last time was a little over 23 mpg all highway. Drove from DFW to San Antonio and to Fredricksberg, back to Austin then back up to DFW, on one tank of gas. Then ran around to work for a week on the same tank, 5 miles each way. 4x a day. 4x5x5=100. For reference DFW to San Antonio is roughly 280 miles. San Antonio to Fredricksberg is about 80 miles. Fredricksberg to Austin is about 80 miles. Austin to HEB is 200 miles. That is 640 highway miles and 100 city miles. That makes 740 miles. Just looked at the reciept and it was 31.206 gallons. That makes 23.7 mpg.
Edit-my 3 passengers were begging to stop around Waco, wondering when I would need gas. I told them not on this trip and had them freaked out. Before leaving San Antonio they were like, don't you need gas. NOPE. Around Austin, is this thing empty yet? NOPE. When we got home I told them I still had 1/8 of a tank on the gauge. Wonder if they believe in a small, powerful, efficient engine, highway gears, OD, and moderate speed now? Last edited by Fast305 : 08-17-2005 at 08:41 PM. |
