I would watch out using platium plugs with your aftermarket IGN Systems (msd 6a, 6al, Jacobs Electronic, Etc). Most of them require solid core plugs READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. I put a pair in one time they lasted a week had to get new ones. I currently run NGK V- Grooved plugs. Alot of guys down at the track (Atco Raceway NJ) use them, so Iswicthed. I currently use the Jacobs Electronics Pro Street with NGK V-Grooved plug. That is the best set up. Who know when I put the supercharger on. I did not see any great MPG increase or smoother idle, then again with the cam it hard to notice anything (11-12 MPG Highway or City).

I agree with 97Chebbie, if you have an aftermarket Ign system that voltage thing from casper will not increase your system.
The Jacobs Electronics Pro Street put out over 60,000 volts
The Msd 6aL and 6a along with there coil puts out 45,000 volts
I dont think you will see a difference with the casper volt sensor.

Dist Cap/ Rotor

On 96-99 5.7L , the crab style cap. To this day I can not find an performance cap. Accel is just a stock replacement. Its not the brown cap with brass connection like the other Accel stuff. I called taylor, MSD, Accel companys they sell no perforance cap for the truck. If there is PLEASE LET ME KNOW the part number. I stopped using the accel cap because I was burrning holes thru the cap. I found the GM AC Delco cap works the best. I even went as far as see for I can replace the Dist with an aftermarket one. No luck there.

Spark Plug Wires
I had them most of them (MSD, Accel,Jacobs)
o bye the way the MSD wire are made in Mexico now (Junk)
I had a set, they fell apart.

I now have a set of taylor spirl pro wires. They are holding put great with the heat from the headers.

You can alos index you plugs with indexing washers. Use to do it
know with the headers, forget it. It hard enough to change them.
had to make a special tool (a cut offset boxed wrench) to remove/install them.

that my 2 cents may 3 cent worth on ign systems

I read the instructions and it said solid core spark plug wires, not the plugs themselves. Also, I've redone my ignition system as well w/ MSD parts. Works great. Also, you can use pretty much any decent plug you want, but to get the most out of your MSD system, you should regap the plugs to to about 0.070. This is what I have, but use whatever gap works best for your engine. I'm using the AC Delco Platinum plugs, they work fine w/ no problems. I was just wondering about the hype on the iridium plugs and it looks like they're pretty good. Thank you guys for all your input! I'll probably grab some NGK Iridium plugs whenever the ones I have crap out which will be a while. Later.

Just wondering, but what should I get first? Thorley headers or CFM-Tech 75mm Throttle body? I guess the basic question is to let more air in or out first. Check my sig for the mods I already have installed. It's kind of a toss up right now as the tb would compliment my intake, but the headers would help the exhaust + make it sound a little better.

IMHO the headers would make more of a difference then the throttle body

I did the blade mod and the headers...the blade mod doesn't help out to much, but is slightly noticable gain..the headers on the other hand will give you a gain that is very noticable. so the headers will help more than the blade.. BTW this is on my 98 350 vortec

Thx for the info. I'll definately get the headers first when I get the $$. After that, I'm gonna get a Wester's tune.

Just wondering if any place carries Thorley headers for a cheaper price than summitracing.com.

Just to add I took Gatbr advise and bought my brother the Casper Electronics throttle enhancer for his 96 yukon, this thing really does work.

Truck shifts alot nicer in WOT and downshifts ALOT quicker then it did before

Highly recommend it

Question
Before I get my Wester's, I need recommendations for shift points and downshifting. My truck is a daily driver that tows rarely. All the other info about my truck is in my sig. Also, what would be a good rev limit. I'm thinking maybe 5600?

PS: Do you think there is a noticable difference between the 91 and 93 octane tuning?

If you can get that thing to make power at 5600 stock intake manifold and pretty much stock other than that i will give you major props. The intake manifold pretty much makes the engine fall flat on its face anything above 5500 and not to mention stock cam (and valvetrain) is only rated at like 5500 along with a stock rev limiter of 5500. i would recomend a shift point between 5000-5200

Yes there will be a noticable diff. between 91 and 93 octane tuning and Lyndon knows where to put your shift points, tell him to set them where he recommends them and you wont be sorry, trust me.

the westers in the Yukon made a very noticble difference (all the neighbors were in the windows as we went up the road sideways, damn snow). shifts good and seems to really like the programming

The 00 is good too, totally different truck with no torque management

Highly recomend Westers

Oil
Someone asked a while back about synthetic oil. I would have to say that Torco is the best oil available. My father and I have been putting it in everything from wave runners to our cars/trucks to the CR 250 enduro bikes we have. Thats just my opinion, most people have never heard of it before though. It is expensive, like $5.75 a quart.

Does Summit not carry the thorley headers for 96-98 Vortec 350 anymore? I tried plugging in the Thorley part number, as well as browsing for them, and no love.

The Summit Part #for the Thorleys is DTE-302Y-FED. It's not regularly in stock, so it may take longer to get the part, but they do carry it. Add "-C" to the end of the part # to get the ceramic coated headers. Hope that helps.
